Romanian M 69?

Hello everyone

I picked up a nice to me, M 69 the other day.

Somewhere along the way someone has cut the end of the barrel and threaded it leaving no trace of the front sight.

My question is would anyone have thoughts on how to put a front sight back on?

I have taken a picture of the barrel end but have not figured out how to post it yet?

Thank you all in advance for you time and have a great day

Doug,

Has the entire front sight sleeve been removed from the barrel like in this picture?

Or has the barrel been cut back all the way to where the sight sleeve would have been?

Bottom line, any good gunsmith should be able to silver solder a new front sight on for you.

Hello Mark.

The sight has been removed and it was it was cut back as you suggested with about 3/4 inch threaded to the first turn.

My guess is it was cut at the slot you have shown.

I hope that makes sense? Lol

Great thought on soldering? But I have no idea of how to go about inquiring a smith in the Smyrna, Lavergne area.

I am relative new to firearms and not a lit of experience.

Thank you for taking your time to share.

Doug,

Check with Ben Schade the gunsmith at the Lebanon Gun Shop.  615-478-9600

Ben is a real deal metal cutting and wood checkering smith.  Not just some guy who can only remove & replace parts.  He has done several jobs for me and all of his work has been first rate.

If you can source an appropriate size slip on sight, it wouldn't be a big deal at all to turn e barrel down and pin it in place.
If you can find an ORIGINAL part, you probably wouldn't even know anything had been done unless you break out a tape measure and see there's a bit of length missing.

Whichever method you end up choosing you'll have a really cool little rifle if you leave the end threaded and get the sight replaced. I love my M69, plenty accurate and built tough enough to last near forever I would guess.

Has the receiver been drilled and tapped for a scope rail?
