Reloader question. Cheap source for lead.

Anyone try to harvest lead from old batteries? My gut tells me that it's a bad idea for several reasons but there would be a good amount of lead there for cheap.

lol this is kinda like the guys that blow themselves up stealing copper gas lines.  It just isn't worth the risks and trouble sometimes...

Yeah I figured that was a bad idea.

Also, if you're not already aware, make 100% sure your lead is dry before you add it to your pot.
Deadly serious.
If you add a screwed up ball of pipe-Jack that happens to contain a droplet of water, your entire pot very probably will erupt like a science project volcano. Of 650° lead. All over you.
It literally only takes one drop of water.

Rob is VERY MUCH correct.  The Tinsel Fairy is a cruel, merciless bitch.

Yes, and that also includes condensation from cool boolits brought into a warmer area, or a splash from your water drop bucket.  That is why I melt all my wheel lead outside in a cast iron pot and only cast from ingots indoors; I can run away faster when in the open  .
