Punishing Lieberman

Recommended Posts

ok, so this really pisses me off. the idea that Joe Lieberman should be punished for supporting John McCain is incredibly ridiculous. It makes me think more of a communist country or some dictatorship than it does America. Punishing a leader because he didn't support the candidate from a particular party? What the heck happened to uniting the country and reaching across the aisle. I wrote a longer article about this on my blog if you want to check it out - Punishing Lieberman? Anyway, just thought I'd share this and see what everyone else thinks about this political garbage.

I agree... he's a man living within a party that's changed into something he no longer wholeheartedly agrees with. The way I see it, he only stood up for what he believes in... is that a crime in America now?

I agree completely.

While I did not agree or support his direction in some areas I did in others. The fact that he is having to "pay the price" for just makes him mor popular in my mind.

They should all strive to serve with integrity and character... but for a long time now that has fallen by the wayside and been seen as a liability. (This is has also become the case in many other areas in society as well.)

This is the change that america needs and wanted... it is not the change that they have just recently voted in. (IMHO)

Same party play as punishing Kurita, after all, who won by thirteen votes, but was stripped by the party bosses anyway. Democracy at work?

Sorry, but I disagree. Lieberman was - or considered himself to be a Democrat - and even ran as a Democratic VP candidate.

Does he have the right to support John McCain? Of course he does! But should he expect to remain as a Democrat and have the same priveleges as a Democratic leader if he supports a Republican? OF COURSE NOT!

The most honorable thing Mr. Lieberman should have done was to have become a member of the Republican party.

Let's face it: just how many of you would have been as equally supportive if a major Republican senator supported Obama???????????????????

there were many major republicans that supported obama. that isn't the point. we have all this rhetoric about changing washington, uniting the country, and then we have to deal with this political BS. he is a democrat because that is what his views are and how he votes most of the time. there is no reason to strip him of his current leadership roles b/c he supported mccain over obama. all this hopety hope change change hope is bs if this the type of thing that happens. this is complete political garbage and nothing else. where is all the bi-partisan reaching across the aisle. if it was still 50-49 in the senate they would be sucking up to lieberman.

Agree.

Lieberman won reelection in 2006 as an INDEPENDENT candidate, not as a Democrat. He lost the primary running as Democrat, but won the general election as a third party candidate.

So, even though he happens to vote most often along with Democrat bent, he was certainly not exactly a "member in good standing" of that party even before this presidential election.

(sorry to interject any actual facts into the thread)

True . . . Lieberman tried to play both sides against the middle, and may lose.

I just wish he would declare himself as a Republican.

I just wish a consortium of the Nader folks, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, Lieberman, Palin, whoever, would all band together with enough recognition factor to create a true "freedom" party and get this two party tyranny offtrack.

i didn't say major republican senator, i said major republican, ie colin powell among others. the fact that he was elected as an independent doesn't really matter very much. he has been and is a democrat, idealogically speaking and according to his voting record. the democrats were happy to have him when he gave them a 1 person majority, but they are pushing him aside now that they have a larger majority. this is washington as usual and partisan politics at its worst.

Lieberman reached his heights as a Democrat.

He ran for Vice President of the United States as a Democrat.

He said he was an "independent."

Yet he spoke at the Republican National Convention in favor of a Republican against the party that ran him as Vice-President.

And Republicans would have acted differently than Democrats if one of their own took the same course?

I don't think so . . .

Lieberman should simply declare himself as a Republican and be done with it.

The only thing in the middle of the road are white lines and dead possums . . .

While I respect Joe, the only thing he agrees with the Republicans on are the issues of Israel and Iraq. Otherwise, he's just another Dem.

Good! Now, when Obama brings a RINO into his cabinet, as has been suggested he will, the Democrats should FIRE HIS ASS for betraying the party.

All hail partisan politics!!! :)

Nice post Clarky. I also took a look at a couple of your other blog entries. well done!

I for one think that Obama is going to crash and burn. Its not what I hope for though. Pelosi and Reid have been thorns in our sides for a long time and need to be leashed. they're the best allies that Hugo Chavez could hope for!

The last thing the Republican party needs is more people like Joe L.

I think he's an honorable man, but he's no Republican, and certainly not a conservative. We have enough of those already thank you.
