100 yard handgun range

Ok, where I normally shoot is a no go on this one. Long story short, coworker stated he could hit a head target at 100 yards with his 9mm. He isn't a big gun guy, but does have a 9mm. Anyway, I told him I'd give him 2 shots for my $100. 4 other people put their money on it too. Where can we make this happen so I can collect my money?!

My son can, but takes a few rounds to get on target, with a Glock 23.

Since you said he doesn't practice, I would have to agree. But, it is not all that hard to do. I don't shoot nearly as much as I used to, but I took my 80yr old uncle out on my home range the other day. (he did really well for not shooting in many years) Anyway's, I set a 22LR box on a post and easily blasted a hole (center left) with a S&W AR 15-22 with open sights and hole (corner right) with a Buckmark at 100yds

find an outdoor range that don't care if you use a pistol on the rifle area.  Most don't care.  

 

I could do it with a better cartridge in a good gun, but 9mm has a lot of drop and most semi-autos have crap for sights.  I'd take the bet with a handloaded 44 and a month to prepare for the challenge...

You can do it at Windrock Range if you are serious about this.  Good folks out there and a nice facility.

 

They have steel at 125 yards iirc...you can shoot rifle or pistol at it...I have.

Hitting a target that size at 100 yards with a handgun is completely doable and not that hard if you focus.  However, since dude is bragging he can do it...your money is safe.

Careful... I did this once with my friends. They were watching a YouTube video at work watching Jerry M. nailing targets out at 50 yards or somthing. I piped up with "ahh that's nothing, I can hit a coke bottle at 100 yards with my glock 19". Well that was challenge accepted to them. We went out to the cheatam county WMA range that Saturday. I was nervous but didn't have anything to lose besides my Arrogant PRIDE. They placed a two liter coke bottle on the farthest berm. I stepped to the firing line, leveled my gun,and squeezed the trigger. I saw the bottle pop up into the air and the puffy cloud of dirt confirmed what I had claimed. I instantly let out a yell, holstered my pistol and stopped shooting anything beyond 10 yards for the rest of the day. Edited May 21, 2015 by Jack

Ok...I thought of norris, and he mentioned the one on rifle range but I'd never been there. So I didn't know if would work, but I assumed norris would. Was hoping to have something on the west side. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Go to Norris.  The "100 yard" target stand and berm there is actually around 122-125 yards.  ;)

Norris will cost you each $20 for one visit. plus you'll have to go by PD, get key, put deposit, return key, unless you want to join, which is only $40 for a year, but runs out end of June (not prorated).

 

John Sevier is $5.50 each and much closer. Their bench range is 100 yards max exactly.

 There is a TWRA  range near Royal Blue at the Onieda exit on I 75. Has 3 gun ranges( 1 rifle) and does not cost anything.

We got a chance to shoot at 12" X 18" silhouette targets at 100 yds at a class I took once. It took me 6 shots to hit it. I'm a better shot than that now, but my money is on you. I don't think 1 in 100 average gun owners can do it in 2 shots.

There are two guys that frequent the norris range, that hit clay pigeons on the berm at the "100yd" mark (my range finder says 112yds) with 9mm so I would be careful with that bet.

If anyone watches Hickok45 he is often hitting his gong at 80 yards and other smaller targets. It's possible and maybe even probable. Waiting for the range report on this one.
