While I support the good things the NRA does for us in protecting gun rights, all the side BS they put out really irritates me at times.

 

I just got another mailing from them, this one TEN pages! This one marked registration, starting out "Dear Walt, your decision to activate your no cost member benefits was a smart one!"

 

Say what? I didn't activate jack diddly. And then it goes on for another eight pages on why blah blah I need their emergency assistance program. But what irked me the most was that in a total of ten pages, there is NOT ONE CONTACT option where I can call, text, or email to ask, "What the heck is this?"

 

I belong to the NRA to protect our gun rights, but all the "other" mailings get old.

Amen, yea, and verily. If I kept all the paper the NRA has sent me since I first joined in 1967 I could save five acres of trees in Oregon.

The NRA and EAA really soured me on belonging to either one of them.

I agree, I hate getting all of the crap in the mail. I get a bunch of emails too which is irritating, but at least it doesn't take as much of our dues to pay for it.

 

I can only assume all of that is so that they can offer value to their members to keep their tax exempt status so that they are not just a lobbying organization.

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?

A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

The NRA is not perfect, but they do a lot of good.

 

I'm not looking for your answers posted in this thread, but I ask this...

"If you are not an NRA member, what are YOU doing to help protect our rights?"

And yes, there are a lot of other good (arguably better, but not as powerful) organizations out there, too.

 

What REALLY irritates me is the number of gun owners who do nothing and expect others to do the lifting.

I am a long time member of the NRA And my renewal is in September and since January I have received not less than 6 renewal from the in the mail. I look at my card date and throw them in the trash without opening them up. I will renew in September but not until. They are hoping for donations which I never send is all..............jmho

For me it's the phone calls....every other day or so I'll get a call wanting ANOTHER donation.....

I just ignore them now....I used to answer, followed by a 20 min speech.....then me saying just NO and hang up..

Where can I get those minutes back?

I am a Life member of the NRA but stopped donating to them several years ago.  Shortly after I paid $1000 to for Lifetime membership, the NRA dropped the price for new members. I had several of their insurance policies which I have since canceled.  A few years ago I was in the hospital as the result of an accident and the NRA endorced policy refused to pay a large portion of the claim.

I was getting a bunch of those (irritating because I was working 3rd Shift at the time and, as a Hostage / Crisis Negotiator, I had to keep my phone on).

Finally, on the last one, I just asked the lady to take me off the call list.  She was very polite and said she would.

She did, and I haven't received a call since.

Pretty simple.

1.  You're mad because the NRA dropped prices (to gain membership) after you paid more?  Btw, I did too.  Were you cheated or did you agree to the sum at the time?

2.  You're mad at the NRA because of a crappy, 3rd party, insurance decision?  I endorse Glocks.  But, if your Glock malfunctions, is it my fault?

I couldn't possibly agree more on every point!

 

They can't be good at what they do without our money and our membership. I don't give as much as I'd like to be abl to and nowhere near as much as they'd like, but LOVE what they do and support it as much as I can.

 

Those gun owners out there watching us due-paying NRA members do the lifting are no better than the thousands on welfare that live off the sweat our brows through our taxes.

I'll tell you, the NRA irritates me greatly with these shenanigans....and.....we are very lucky to have them. We wouldn't be where we are without them.

I don't send money when it doesn't feel right. I did when the green tips were going on as that was a real threat.

Joining the NRA doesn't cost that much. I would really like to encourage all gun enthusiasts to be a member.

Communications from the NRA don't bother me. I don't fret over the calls or the emails. They have to collect money anyway they can. If I feel like contributing, I do. If not, I don't. Emails I simply contribute or delete. If I get a phone call I politely tell them I'm not able to give at the present time. It takes just a few seconds of my day.  They do a lot more than just fight for the rights of Americans, they have many programs that all cost money and spread interest in firearms, firearms safety, as well as firearms education to the masses. I shudder to think where we'd be without them.

To me it's no different than NPR advertising for donations. Public radio is important to me, so why not donate? NRA should calm down a bit, tho.. :lol:

Unwanted email does not even get clicked on' unwanted mail goes in the trash can.... I do not answer my cell phone nor do I answer my home phone I also do not return phone calls to anyone that does not bother to leave me a message.... The NRA needs money as much a Hilary does and more so but that does not mean that I need to make a donation every single time I pass the local fire dept collection can either....
