So I ordered an Aimpoint Comp C3. It finally came in and I was rather excited for it since I had been waiting about a year to purchase one. So I open the package and come out to find that 1) the mount it shipped with is too low and 2) the optic doesn't work. I decided to return the Comp C3 and get my money back. I will now be waiting for the refund and I will be purchasing an Aimpoint PRO. I may have had a moment of being mesmerized by a shiny object but I swore that the amount would have cleared the A2 front sight. I guess it doesn't matter now though for the C3 will be in the mail tomorrow being returned. I did debate cutting the front sight off but then I realized I would have had to put more money into a 467 dollar purchase and I also did not want to buy another mount. I guess I know why this model was discontinued.

If the C3 is anything like the CompM2 model that served as the M68 optic for the US Army, the mount needs a half moon spacer added to get it to the proper height.  Maybe that was the case with yours?  I'd need pics to be sure.

 

Either way, the PRO is probably the best overall value out there for quality without going over $500.  It should serve you well.

Yep, the PRO is good and lines up perfect with my Samson flip sights.

It may be but I'm so pissed off that in my mind I am perfectly OK with returning it and buying something that will work out of the box. I appreciate the suggestion but I will just get my money back.

Bear in mind, more and more companies aren't considering a FSP when they prepare an optic for out of the box mounting.  With a lot of builds coming from a factory, or put together without a FSP, they're fine setting it up for that, then just offering the aftermarket parts to bring it up over one for anybody who needs it to compensate for a FSP.

I'll just get something that comes with a mount that cowitnesses my FS from the factory. I would be interested in buying a PRO from someone on the site but doubt anyone will want to part with one.

Huh? Whether it's an A2 sight, or some flip-up that's private labeled by Palmetto Bug, ALL AR sights are the same height (all mine are). The sight height is what it is because there is no drop in the stock. A lower 1/3 cowitness mount is gonna put ANY AR iron site in the lower 1/3 of the optic.

I suppose they could be that way, if they're not AR mounts. Why would somebody do that? The mounts I've bought for Aimpoint and similar were either full or lower 1/3. Only options available for the mounts that were designed for that job. Personally, I like full cowitness and flip-up sights.

The Aimpoint's (M2) that were issued in the military required that half moon spacer if you mounted them onto a flat top upper.  If you were hanging it off of the mount that screwed into a carrying handle on an M16A2, you needed to take it out.  Things got ugly if you tried to zero without double checking for that.

 

 

M2 mounted on "gooseneck mount" for M16A2; you can see how low it would sit on a flattop upper.

 

 

 

M2 with half moon spacer for flat top mounting (it's the middle bar in the mount) to raise it up.

 

 

 

The CompM4 had a riser in the base when we started getting those, but I just kept the M2 on my weapon.   The PRO should have one as well.

Yep. Never said it wasn't confusing :) Thank God I've never had to stick something on a carry handle. That's always an abortion. All my guns are flat tops except one. That one will never get optics.
