Nifty trick for dealing with sight glare

I recently got a Springfield loaded 1911 that came with Tritium sights. The challenge I was having is that I shoot a lot at an indoor range and the lighting made the glare on the rear sights so bad that I couldn't shoot well.

Of course, I could get new sights, but then would either pay a bunch or lose the tritium sights.

I gave Sight Black a try. Basically, it's spray on carbon black that comes off easily.

Of course, like any self respecting man, I refused to read the instructions. I was rewarded for that by getting carbon black on everything and petroleum distillate infused carbon black spots all over a dress shirt. Fortunately, I buy cheap ones.

After reading the instructions, it works like a charm. Shake it a lot and hold it 8-10 inches away.

Thought I would share in case it would help anyone else. It would make better sense to get new sights if the gun wouldn't ever be used for defense, though this may become a defense gun.

Sounds like a neat product. You can also use a zippo style lighter to soot them up a bit too. Cheap easy and you get a lighter out of the deal. Also fairly precise in it's application.

Yep.  Light a piece of paper or strike a match and then blow it out.  Rub your fingers over the burned area and then wipe your sights.
