I recently pocket-carried (briefly) a full-size 1911. It wasn't comfortable, but it worked. It takes work jeans to pull that off. :)

I love Enfield's great quip here... I used to work with a guy who wuz rotund (...like me...)... He regularly carried a commander sized 1911 in the hip pocket of his hi back overalls... It worked like a charm... I sometimes carry a baby glock (...a 27 or 33...) in the hip pocket of my carhartt dungarees... It works like a charm....

I second the Kahr suggestions.  The PM9/MK9s are about the smallest 9mms you can buy.

Only thing I've seen smaller is the Diamondback DB9 it is much lighter too at 12.8 oz mt and 16 oz loaded.....
