Question About Renewal

Recommended Posts

Posted

It is now 6 months before I renew my HCP, so I'm getting ready to start the process. If I renew by mail, I have to send a certified copy of my birth certificate. If I renew in person, do I have to show the certified copy or do they keep it? If they keep it either way, I'd rather just do it by mail.

Thanks for the feedback!

Others have also mentioned that it's better to do it in person since receipt serves as continuation of your permit if the new one doesn't get back to you before expiration.

Apparently there is no valid online receipt to print, I guess?

That is my understanding. If you do it online and its getting close to your expy date, you'll have to call them up and have them issue you a letter stating your renewal application is still in progress in order for you to continue carrying with your expired permit..

Renewal does not follow under the 90 days shall issue. It took almost 6 months for mine to come back. I would do it in person. You can do it six months prior.

Yeah, that's the other thing that's been consistently reported here, that even though new issues can be long, renewals are always LONGER.

I just renewed mine last tuesday for that very reason.

In person and 5 months early.......quick and painless.

I called the Ten Dept of Safety and a nice lady openly admitted that the web site information makes it difficult for one to re-up by mail, especially the part that states you can't send in a photocopy of your birth certificate.

I did mine in person.

I renewed mine by mail about a year ago and don't remember sending in a birth certificate. Is that something that changed recently. I was keeping an eye on the expiration date but the state sent me a letter and the paperwork to renew well before the expiration date. I received my renewal permit a good month before the old one expired.

Sometimes the knowledge of the staff at each station is different, but the law clearly says you can apply for a renewal up to 6 months before your current permit expires.
