Picked up a new Glock 17 gen 3 today.

Recommended Posts

Stopped by my favorite lgs this morning to see if they had anything I couldn't live without . I saw a new g17 gen 3 in the case and almost passed right over it as I already have 3 until I notice that on the slide by the number 17 it said USA instead of Austria . I had them get it out of the case for me and it says made in USA in the frame as well so I had no choice but to buy it lol. I wasn't aware that any glocks were made in the USA. Does anybody else have any USA glocks?

Thanks guys. I own several glocks so I was pretty shocked that I hadn't even heard of a USA made glock. I really like the less common variants of guns. I have a fde g17 gen 4, a gen 3 g17 tb, and a mpdc marked g17 gen 1 so I think this goes with the collection nicely .

One of my my buddies picked up a USA G19 a couple of years ago. Another friend that works for a three letter .gov agency bought a G27 gen4 through his agency (the only way he can carry a POW on duty/off duty). He was surprised when he say the USA on the side also.

If I'm not mistaken both the USA and Austria Glocks are the same quality but different treatment process for the metal slide and barrel... Tenifer process is done in Austria but is not done in the US, due to the chemicals used that are outlawed by the EPA... Therefore it is a different metal treatment on the US made Glocks that are usually for Export.

Process changed completely away from Tenifer circa 2009. Tenifer is no longer used for consistency in runs in case both U.S. and Austrian runs had to be combined. This info is from one of the armorers at the factory I talked to in person.
Your information about location and difference is correct. It has changed in the last several years, though.
