Worth Returning?

Recommended Posts

I got in a new Spikes Tactical Bolt Carrier Group in from Primary Arms today, and it looks perfect.. except for one conspicuous looking scratch. There is a very large scratch on the carrier key, and I'm wondering if it has enough bad potential to warrant a return.  Anywhere else, and I might ignore it, but the exact place it's scratched makes me look at it and wonder if that part is going to fail someday.  Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'll ask you guys.  What say ye?

Before going to all the trouble of sending it in, I think I'd send an email note to Spikes about it with the photo and see what they say. But if you can shine a light in there and the scratch is visible on the inside, I'd send it back.

Bought it through Primary Arms, so not sure what Spikes can do.

No light shines inside, if it did, I'd of already filled out the return form.  But with all the pressure a bolt carrier has to endure, this one has me looking for some expert opinions.

ETA:  I just called Primary Arms.  They were very quick to help me out, and I already have a return shipping label.  I'll be sending off the scratched one and getting a replacement at no cost to me.  Very happy with the customer service.

While I wouldn't sweat it unless there was a bur sticking out, it really sucks to have a brand new part come in scratched. Primary arms is easily one of my favorite vendors. They ship the next business day, and have helped me out multiple times. Can't recommend them to folks enough

I sent to the pics to an armorer who is pretty sure it's just a machine mark, though he said it's rare for it to happen.  For me, spending the money for a "brand name" on something as vital to the running of a gun as the BCG is, instead of the <$100 ones, I expected a high standard in quality.

And yeah, PA is as high on my list as they are yours.  Their selection is very good and their shipping is phenomenal.  I ordered this late Monday night, and it was on my doorstep this afternoon.  Taking care of an issue like this only reinforces the customer relationship they have with me.  If any of their prices are close enough to a competitor (and they are often lower), I go with them.

If you're talking about that diagonal line roughly in the middle... yes, that's a machining mark and it won't hurt a thing.  It could be polished out with a file or some sandpaper.  But if they're going to replace it, that's even better.

Unless it's a raised burr that would interfere with function, scratches only matter to safe queens, collectibles and other assorted useless items. If you actually USE it, it'll aqcuire several scratches over time.

I'm fine with scratches I put on my stuff, but out of the box...not so much.  PSA and their discounted blemishes are the proper way to do business if you have any new but scratched equipment.

Beat me to it, peej. Not a scratch at all.
