While not as bad, my fire sometimes smokes up the surrounding yards but it does wonders on the mosquito population so they don't complain.

It's far easier to just piss off the neighbors by the mere act of breathing. (Which this guy has probably now achieved as well).

I've actually used one on a backyard fire before and it works great. Really gets it going if stuff is damp.

Easy way to start a brush fire and/or burn your house or your neighbor's down.  Easy way to cause that chiminea to crack and explode. 

 

That said, a friend does that with a steel drum when burning brush.  He cut holes in the bottom and stick the blower nozzle right up to it.  At dusk, the whole barrel glows orange/red with flames 10 ft high.  Makes quick work of wet brush.

Open burning, as described in this article, may be conducted without permits provided that no public nuisance is or will be created by such burning. That must be what my neighbor does.  He floods us with smoke all summer.  Claims he is burning brush...but there are no trees around his house.  I assume he is a firebug and burning other peoples' brush.
