Barrett.

My question is why 6.8? One of the Docs i work with is hard on getting one. He is thinking SHTF and I can't get through to him limited avalibility of ammo.

I am considering options to be able to swap upper on my AR. AR's are good to 200-300m, but if I switch out to the 6.8mm I could stretch that reach to 800 to 1000m. This round still has tremendous power at that distance. You are correct in stating that round is not readily available. I plan on reloading all rounds that I shoot. With the ability to simply switch uppers, I eliminate the need to purchase another weapon, in this case a long gun.

At this point I am just considering this. IMO If I can find a quick change upper for my 223 AR, then that will be better than buying another weapon.

69gr bthp at 2850 from the muzzle is a bona fide 600 yard round. Its also alot cheaper to handload it than a 6mm bullet.

Cardinal Armory (formerly Ko-Tonics) used to be the best, but he unfortunately is closing. Try to get a 4 groove 1:11 twist if you can. Stay away from Model 1 sales 6.8. They use a twist rate that is way too fast and doesn't work well. Other than that, most of the makers are making them these days and ammo is coming down to a reasonable level that make them worth while now. I had a Ko-tonics that I sold due to ammo cost, but I really like the round and am thinking of getting another upper for hunting purposes.

You actually have the range kinda backwards. 6.8 SPC is considered a medium range bullet. It does have a lot better terminal balistics and killing power than the weak .223 at all ranges.
