Make sure to clean the hell out of it after shooting. Depending on ammunition the crud left behind can be very corrosive.

Agreed, depending on the persons cleaning habits, this is about the quickest way to destroy a DI gun. Ive seen a few that bleed at FSB when shot.

The idea of this caliber was solid when surplus ammo was plentiful and cheap.  It's just about dried up now though.  Unless a soul had enough foresight to put away a tidy nest egg, I do not see a single advantage to this.

It's the standard caliber for the Russians and a few other non-NATO countries. Just sayin

Even the new factory ammo is relatively cheap. I have plenty of surplus I have bought stupid cheap. I find it just as accurate as my 5.56 shooting bulk surplus. I use the C-Products magazines , plus windowed P-mags with 28 round. On the P-Mags you need to cut off the front leg of the follower. Edited by R1100R

Yes, but the flood of dirt cheap ammo e saw a few years ago has started to dry up. It's not coming back either. Certainly not unavailable, Hornady even loads it BUT, if you're paying full retail price for ammunition, the 5.45 has nothing to offer over the .223............unless of course you just want one. If that's the case, hell yeah! Go for it. Never compromise on what you really want, you'll just be disgusted with it in 6 months and wish you never bought it.
