Fitbit who uses them?

Just wondering does anyone here use a Fitbit?  Or are you asking what is a Fitbit?

Work gave everyone that wanted one a Fitbit zip and ask us to try to do 10,000 steps a day and gave a challenge of 200,000 steps.  (I will hit my 200,000 today, in fact I am only about 2k under now).

Since I got this sucker I have been more active, it alone has been more motivation then anything else.

I have been going out of my way to make sure I get my 10k steps, I have only missed it one day and I got 9k but also that day the battery came lose so I lost some steps.  I have hit as high as 15k in a day.

When I first got it, I did some average days, nothing else and found I was only getting about 3,000 steps.

Anyways, I liked the fitbit zip so much, I wanted to try the upgrade so I gave it to my wife and brought myself the Fitbit Charge HR which is more of a watch and has heart beat and sleep monitor.

I like how the site puts most things in to a graph with time of day so you can see when and how active you are.

So far today, I have got

Daily Totals
  • 3,397 steps
  • 5 floors
  • 1.6 miles
  • 1,317 calories.

In the past 7 days, I have had

Weekly Totals
  • 72,945 steps
  • 49 floors
  • 34.52 miles
  • 26,781 calories

I think this is something I really needed.  Just wondering if anyone else has used them.

FYI, the zip is about 50 dollars, and I found the battery to be a bit lose (watch type battery) I added some strips of paper to tighten it up.  The watch is rechargeable.

If you go to buy one, I found the price changes often on Amazon.  Normal about 200, but I snagged mine when it was out of stock and the price was dropped to 150.  I thought it was a mistake but Amazon still sent it.

There is even a more advanced one but also more expensive.

My wife has been attaching hers to our cat's collar.  She's been competing with her mother and sister who are really blown away--not only by her extreme bursts of activity, but also by all the restful sleep she is getting.

I have the one that clips on your pocket or waist. I walk more and get more exercise because of it.

Make sure to get a tether if you have the clip on model - I think they designed it to be lost.

Go for a gadget leash for better looks or search Amazon for a cheap one.

My wife bought one and it broke within a couple of weeks. POS! [the Fitbit; not her]

The band on mine broke in the first few weeks but the replacement has been good for several months.

Hers was the Fitbit its self. She'd bought stylish bands for it up front.

I don't have one, but I know someone who has a similar device made by Garmin. If I had to guess, I'd say the Garmin would be more robust. They know how to make outdoor stuff. Just guessing.

I've had a jawbone for about a year now. Girlfriend has had the jawbone and now the fitbit. We both like them quite a bit.
I had such high hopes for the garmin, but overall it hasn't held up to the expectations of the name from many reviews I've read. Fitbit seems to be the best all around. I've about worn my jawbone out so I'll be moving to the fitbit one shortly.

today's work out.  It was really just a allot of walking and stairs but trumped sitting on the couch.
