Chattanooga folks-- Knife sharpening? Where?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Work has brought me to Chattanooga for the week... just pulled out my Gerber Firestorm to use it, and it is in dire need of a good sharpening.

Is there any place in town that can put a good edge on it for me? It's got one of those tricky little tanto blades with a straight/serrated combo blade edge. Yes, I know I could do it myself, but I'm away from home and that's not a practical answer at this time.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance.

I checked BING for knife sharpening services in Chattanooga to see if I could find something that might help you out.  Unfortunately, nothing definitive came up.  Here in Knoxville, on Lovell Road just down the road from where I work, there is a place in a little 'strip mall' kinda center called Kinney Sharpening.  I haven't used them but told a co-worker about them when she asked if I knew of any places that offer sharpening services.  She said she took about ten knives (mostly kitchen knives, I think) and other things there, all at once, and was pleased with the results.  Not that this helps you much in Chattanooga.

The only advice that I can think of off the top of my head is that you might call the Chattanooga Sportsman's Warehouse ((423)892-6300) and see if anyone there (they actually have a good sized knife counter) might know of a local sharpening service.

Stop by the nearest sporting good store and pick up a stone or one of those little pocket sharpeners... should be only about $10... and leave it in your suitcase for the next time.  Likely won't get it back to shaving sharp, but should return it to service.

Lynn's sharpening service on hwy 58 across from the Ace Hardware. A lot of times he's backed up but maybe he can do it for you on the spot. He also runs a small engine repair business out of there so don't be confused. I think he's still open.

go to frost cutlery @ 6861 Mountain View Rd, Ooltewah.  it is off I-75 one exit north past vw.   at one time they would do them for people.  several years ago they did a knife for me.  I went inside the old show room and asked a worker.  he took my knife to the back and 15 minutes later I have a sharp knife at no charge.   so try them.
