Was breaking in a new ATI today and

had a few failure to lock back and one failure to return to battery, the ATI is all I could afford right now and I fugure if things start to break then I would upgread the part with better a part, but for the issues at hand.  I did watch several videos done by others and noticed that once they are a little more broke in it it should cycle a little better and not have any failures to return to battery, but for the failure to lock back for those that know, will that continue to improve as time goes on?

I did not run very many rounds down the pipe today my old tennis elbow kicked in, and it has been about a year since I have shot a handgun, there was no limp wristing I made sure of that and I was using some federal 230gn ammo and I did notice that the rear sight is off just a little as it is shooting right so I need to nudge it to the left just a touch, is it very difficult to nudge the rear sight just a smidge?

Thanks

Probably a good cleaning and lube would help the slide to operate properly. Assuming it's in a dovetail slot, you can drift the rear sight with a hammer and punch.

This and try this ^^^ and maybe a new magazine from Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat and see if that doesn't help your slide lock problem. Be sure to put plenty of grease or lube on the rails, mine always runs better wet.

I have an ATI Titan in stainless and I like it a lot; its not a top end gun and I know that.... With that being said the first couple mags through the gun had me worried that I'd made a mistake as it gave several hicups... But after that it smoothed right out with 230 grain FMJ as well as several other JHP rounds... I don't carry with the factory ACT (?) mags as I don't care for the extended floor-plates they use so I use some Wilson mags. Thus far once past the first couple of mags it has shot well with any mag used.

Also a good cleaning and lube is in order as these things ship from overseas and they are nasty inside....

it was wet I guess it will have to be weter, I did clean it and lubed it up fairly well but will go heavier next time out and see how it goes, as soon as I can I had planed on a new mag I guess it will have to come sooner than later, I am going to look but do the ^^^^^^above have 7 rounders?

Thanks

ya I cleaned it before taking it out and could still see some of the packing grease coming off tonight when i was cleaning, I did take a brush to it tonight several times to get more off, will just have to see how it goes the next time out.  I am happy so far with the size, fit and feel of the gun mine is a titan as well just not the stainless, but as I mentioned if something brakes I will upgrade the part with a good part, thanks for the input so far.

IIRC the factory mags were 7 rounds and the Wilson mags with the flat floor-plate was a 6 round mag. Take a look a different quality brand mags for the "Officer" sized 1911 and you may find some that allow for the 1 extra rounds such as Chip McCormick, Wilson Combat etc.

ill have to take a look at chips stuff I was looking at wilson but didn't look real close, I did see where the mag that came with the ati was an Italian mag and thought it would be ok but I guess not?

Grease the rails, the barrel lugs and the end of the barrel.

If it continues you can polish the breech face with some 2,000 grit sandpaper.

Also check the extractor to make sure the bottom of the hook has a bevel to it.

The factory mags IIRC are ACT which are okay quality mags; they are mass produced and can sometimes have tolerances that might not agree with every gun. The ACT mag is know for having weak feed lips that are prone to cracking...

Ill have to go back and grease the end of the barrel I had greased the rails well I thought but probably needs more, I had thought about polishing the ramp but wasn't sure if I should. The xds I had was nicely polished where this isnt thanks dolo

Don’t go shopping for mags. If your weapon won’t function with the mags that came with it; something is wrong. Send it back and let them have their gunsmiths go through it. Chances are you will get a weapon back that functions properly.
You might want to read this though, in case you haven’t done it.

All firearms (pistols, rifles, shotguns, and lower receivers) being sent in for service must be registered through the ATI website or by mailing in the firearm’s warranty card to receive warranty services. Firearms that are not registered can be serviced, but will be subject to charge.

I had a ATI Titan in stainless also. Recoil springs and the reverse plug were replace with Colt parts. After a couple of trips to the manufacturer I gave up. Their customer service was horrible at the time, I hope it has improved

Sounds like you have gotten good advice on the gun, let me share a little bit of advice on the tennis elbow.  I suffered from tennis elbow for about 2 years.  First in the left elbow and then in the right as well.  I toughed it out until it was affecting my quality of life and I finally broke down and went to an orthopedist.  To show how bad it was I refuse to go to a doctor for something like that unless I just can't stand it anymore.  The orthopedist had suffered from tennis elbow as well, he had gotten into some poison ivy and took a Z-pack which not only cured his poison ivy but his tennis elbow as well, he recommended that I try the Z-pack as the first and easiest and least invasive form of treatment.  I could tell a huge difference within 2 days and was 90% better within 5 days.  I have not been bothered with tennis elbow for about a year now.  Really wish I had gone to the doctor sooner.

A zpak for tennis elbow? An antibiotic for an inflamed tendon? You sure it wasn't something else? I'm not a doctor, but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express before.

Thanks Dave Tn, for the advice I did go and look and register the gun on their website and will call them on Monday for a return autho to get it sent back.  it is kind of a bummer I was really looking forward to this being my edc, I guess I will just need to wait a little longer till it is resolved.  As for the tennis elbow it is something that has bothered me for years when it flairs up it is a real bear, I did get it injected several years ago and it worked real well.  But that was done by a Dr who knew how to get right to the triger point where the tendon attaches to the bone and really worked the needle in and around the location I'll have to see if the V.A. will do anything for me.

i tried an ATI 1911 and it was a mess and would not run

I fixed it myself, things it needed were as follows

Polished Feedramp, this should be SOP for all 1911s

New recoil spring from Wilson, ATI uses some junk from China ?

MSH spring from Wilson.

It fed pretty well after this and the trigger went from like 9 pounds to 5 lbs3.

It ran like a champ and even ate hollwpoints

but it was so loose and un accurate I ended up sellin it off

Yes! Last October, I got covered with poison ivy. A day or two after getting a shot and taking the pills, I lost not only the poison ivy rash, but also the pain in my elbow and in my lower back running down my leg.

As I said, this was the first part of last October, and none of these has returned.

I registered the gun on ati's website yesterday for the warranty I am going to call tomorrow to return it for repairs. As far as this gun it appears to be very tight I am not unhappy with it and am willing to upgrade what needs to be done, but for now I'll let them do it at there cost

I think that will be your best bet. You will also find out how good their customer support is. They should email you a shipping label and ship it on their dime. Magazines are always blamed for guns malfunctioning. If it won’t function with the magazine the manufacturer supplied; that’s a problem. If it’s a bad mag; let them deal with it. But if it’s the gun having a factory gunsmith go through it sure can’t hurt. If you get it back and it still does it; then you have problems.

Let us know how it turns out.

I just caved in and decided to get my first 1911.  It is a used ATI Titan with the nitride(?) finish.  I know that the compact versions are said to often not function as well but I greatly prefer the look and feel of them to the full-size - plus if I decide to carry it at some point the compact will be easier to conceal.  As it was a used gun, the owner of the LGS let me try it out before buying it.  At first, I was not going to buy it as it failed to feed frequently with Winchester FMJ flat points and absolutely would not feed with any of the mixed variety of hollow points he gave me to try - as in I had trouble even getting some of them to load by manually operating the slide.  Another thing was that the brass invariably was hitting me in the forehead.  When I told him how badly it was jamming, the LGS owner handed me a box of Golden Sabers and a spare Kimber magazine he had behind the counter and told me to try those out.  The GS would not feed reliably through the factory mag - behaving about like all of the other hollow point rounds (with the 'lip' of the hollow point catching on the ramp.)  When I loaded the Kimber mag, however, I noticed that the ammo was sitting at a much steeper, upward angle than in the factory mag which gave me hope that it would work better.  Happily, I think that was all it needed as the GS ran through the Titan with the Kimber mag like crap through a goose and every bit of the brass went over my shoulder, not into my forehead.  When I put it in lay-away (to hold it until my tax return came available), the LGS owner said to leave the Kimber mag in it and that he would get me a second Kimber mag to go with it.

On another note, when it functioned properly I was amazed at how accurately I was able to shoot it considering this was only the third time I have fired a 1911, the second time I have fired a 1911 in .45 (the first one I fired was in 9mm) and the first compact version of the 1911 I have ever fired.  I will probably polish the feed ramp just to give it that extra bit of help and as long as Kimber mags work in the Titan as well as that one did I think I will be happy with it.  I am still not real comfortable with the idea of cocked and locked carry so it may not go into the carry rotation for a while.  Of course, I'll want to confirm reliability before I carry it, anyhow.
