He's a has been looking for free media attention he hopes will pay off for his tanked career. Best thing is to pass the word about how he feels about gun owners and guns. Don't cater to a hater just use the same media to shut them down.

On a side thought, allegedly the folks at sandy hook had received financial compensation. Nothing can replace a life but this late in the game a sandy hook help out??? He should have stuck around here to help 2010 flood victims.....

Sandy Hook Charities Raise $28 Million, Nearly Half Unspent

Nearly half of the $28 million raised by 77 groups following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting has not been distributed yet, according to a new state report.

The state attorney general's final report on organizations that collected money following the Dec. 14, 2012 shooting that left 20 first graders and six adults dead, is expected to be made public this week. The groups that submitted information to the state through two surveys ranged from national charities to high school soccer teams.




The 30-page report concludes that about $15 million has been distributed by the groups, most to the victims' families. The attorney general's office found no evidence of illegal activities related to fundraising or how money was spent.

The attorney general's office and the Office of Consumer Protection sent out detailed surveys to all of the groups it could identify that had raised money following Sandy Hook. The surveys were voluntary and designed to allow state officials to track how much money was being raised and whether groups were following through on donors' intent for the money.

"In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, the giving public demonstrated great generosity, and the charitable sector answered the call to provide assistance to a grieving community," the report states.

There have been questions raised about a charity based in Nashville where investigators are digging into what happened to more than $70,000 raised by runners involved with the 26.4.26 Foundation which held marathons in which participants dedicated each mile they ran to one of the 26 children and educators killed in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

There were seven organizations that raised more than $1 million led by the Newtown-Sandy Hook Foundation, which became known to many in town as the United Way fund. After numerous discussions, the foundation gave $7.7 million of the money it raised to the 40 families directly impacted by Adam Lanza's shooting spree.

The 26 victims' families received $281,000, the families of the 12 children who survived the massacre in two classrooms got $20,000 each and the two teachers who were injured received $75,000 each.

The decision on how to distribute the money was controversial. Some argued the entire fund should go to the victims and others, including Newtown First Selectwoman Pat Llodra, said the foundation gave short shrift to the survivors of the massacre who will need years of therapy.

The Newtown-Sandy Hook Foundation still has more than $4.3 million it has not distributed, by far the largest amount of any organization. That money will be used over the next 15 years to provide mental health services to the victims' families, first responders, teachers and students from the school.

Among the other groups that raised more than $1 million was the My Sandy Hook Family Fund, started by Rob and Debra Accomando of Sandy Hook. They have raised more than $1.6 million all of which has gone directly to the 26 victims families.

Tthe report also indicates:

•There are four groups that have raised more than $1.28 million for a memorial, led by the Newtown Memorial Fund which has slightly more than $1 million in its coffers. Additionally, the town has a fund with more than $500,000 in it for "projects with a special purpose" including a sidewalk memorial.



•Three scholarship funds answered the surveys, led by the University of Connecticut which announced it would use the more than $1 million it has raised to provide scholarships to the school for victims siblings and anyone who was attending the Sandy Hook Elementary School the day of the massacre.

•Of the 77 organizations that responded, 13 were from outside of Connecticut and 36 were from Newtown. The majority of charities are registered as 501c organizations by the Internal Revenue Service or have applied for that non-profit status.

•There was only one for-profit organization that responded – Phoenix Events LLC, of Ohio, which raised more than $29,000 for the 26 Benches project overseen by the Newtown Parks and Recreation department. Engraved benches for all 26 victims will be purchased and placed in parks around town.

•There are 16 organizations actively soliciting donations, mostly through their websites or through special events. Among them are the Lion's Club, Rotary Club, Sandy Hook Promise and the Newtown Memorial Fund. Most acknowledge funds have slowed to a trickle.

There are two funds that have raised significant amounts of money and spent little of it.

The Sandy Hook School Foundation received $986,000 in donations and has spent $13,000, records show. The Fairfield County Community Foundation has raised $899,514 and spent about $33,000. Edited April 20, 2015 by Dustbuster

He really would do well to remember his target audience.

He is. Like most modern country stars he's shooting for the teens and twenty something kids that just want to thump and bump some nonsensical trash about girls, beer and trucks. The handful of them that are even aware of this will forget all about it when his next single, "Girl in a beer truck" comes out.

Unfortunately, I suspect Mr McGraw's career will be unaffected by this and it will be forgotten by most in a couple of weeks.
