Finally finished my first AR Pistol

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I've had this Matrix Aerospace lower built for months, and actually built several rifles while saying "Gonna finish the pistol next" every time I finished another rifle. LukeE got a kick out of me telling him that several times :)

I bought the buffer tube off a guy at work, so can't remember the name of it, but it's nice enough.

Upper is 10.5" PSA upper, Radical Firearms BCG and BCM Mod4 CH.

Grip is Magpul K2. I picked it because several people on here and other forums said they liked them on pistol setups. I'll figure out if it will stay after I shoot it a few times.

Still needs a rear sight and I'm gonna figure out what kind of red dot to run. I imagine smaller the better. Any of y'all just run irons on the pistols? I assume without being able to brace it (if I had a Sig Brace when you could shoulder them) irons may be harder to shoot with on pistol setup. But I think someone said we are still okay legally speaking to shoulder the buffer tube as of now, that correct?

To me it seems almost as short in my hands as I figured the 7.5" would have seemed. I really like it and can't wait to shoot it for the first time.

I talked to the guys at Vortex today at the NRA show, great guys and very helpful. I think I may go with the Sparc 2, but they have new smaller ones Viper and Venom that I really liked too.

Congrats on the build. I just finished my first pistol build last week and got that same PSA upper (great price, couldn't pass it up.) I used a MOE hand guard, Phase 5 Tactical HEX buffer and tossed on a Sig SBX brace. Just need optics. I'll post a picture here in a bit.

Looks really good. I have a weakness for carbine length rifles and pistol builds. I'd have them all if I could afford it.

I have been debating putting the Magpul handguard on mine also. That looks good!

The MOE handguard is ok, but a bit too wide at the bottom. Will probably get the new MOE-SL when they are available.

I love them too, just not enough money to build as fast as I want haha

Looks like that's the reason for PSA being out of 10.5" uppers.. I just finished mine today. One thing though, the picatinny rail on the receiver might be out of spec.. or my PA red dot mount bolt got stretched.. Now I want to go shoot...

I've only had it out twice, but it was really fun shooting. Took a little getting used to lining back up the sights after each shot with the buffer tube on my cheek with no rear support. Slow shots were easy, quicker ones while standing, took me a bit to figure out what I needed to do.

Congrats on yours and hope you get to shoot it soon!

To be honest, I have the sig brace with the KAK Buffer Tube, perfect for my arms and lines up really nice from the low ready when I bring it up.. Now I want a Can for it.. so looks like I'll be filling a trust in the near future for both can and SBR it..
