Need help buying my first Silencer!

Ok, so I want to buy my first silencer. I already have a Form 4 out awaiting its approval so I'm somewhat familiar with the whole tax stamp, NFA item process. What I'm not familiar with is the world of silencers, and the best way of obtaining one.

First off I need advise on good silencers. I Have a Rem. 700 in .300 blackout, along with an AR pistol in .300blk. I'm wanting to buy a silencer for these two guns in particular, but more so for the Rem. 700.

I'm wanting to use the gun to hunt, So I'm wanting to get the quietest silencer without breaking the bank.

I know very little about them, but I do know I want one that can be taken apart for easy cleaning. Suggestions on specific silencers to fit my bill under 1000 dollars.

My second question is what's the best way of buying one? I've been on Silencer shop searching around looking at silencers. Has anyone bought a silencer from them, and what was the process of buying it compared to buying it from a Class 3 dealer? What's easier?

Thanks guys

If you want one for the primary uses of hunting on a bolt gun, you will want lightweight.  Lightweight usually means titanium with a few exceptions.  In general centerfire rifle cans are not serviceable.  There really is no need to take it apart unless you will be shooting a lot of cast lead.  In that case my recommendation would change.  I would look at, and I own, an AAC 300tm.  It is at the top of your price point, but it performs very well and is very lightweight.  The Silencerco Omega is another good choice at that price point.  If you prefer to save a bit of cash, take a look at the Silencerco harvester or the Griffin sportsman.  Both of those come in around $550-600.  Suppression won't be quite as good, but they are light and fairly inexpensive.  I'd also look at the thunderbeast arms new line of titanium cans.  They look very promising.

If you will be shooting cast lead and want to take it apart, I'd look at the Liberty Mystic X.  It's rated for supersonic 300blk and won't be too heavy.

It's easier to buy direct from a local dealer, but they don't always have what you want.  I've bought most of mine online from retailers including silencershop.  There are several other good online dealers for you to check.  I have experience with Tarheel state firearms, capitol armory, and silencershop.  All have been great.  They will file a Form3 which will transfer it to your local dealer.  Local dealer will charge a fee for the transfer, then you will file Form4 to transfer to you.  The F3 adds some time though.  Recently those times have been upwards of 2 months.

Thanks for the dealer suggestions, Samson7x. I've been trying to find a particular model that silencershop has had me on wait list for for months. I found it at Capitol Armory and ordered it today. Even had a buy one get one deal going, so guess I'll have twice the stamps to buy.

No problem.  Torrey is great to work with up there.  Also sign up for their newsletter and they have deals once a month.  I scored a Salvo 12 for $795!!
