Got a new (to me) bow

A co-worker made me a HELL of a deal on this bow, simply because he was tired of it not getting used with so little time to hunt. It was basically sitting on a shelf most of the time he's owned it and is like brand new. The only think I could find wrong is the small rubber tube that keeps the peep site aligned is dry rotted and I will replace it. It's a PSE Triton and while not the fastest and lightest produced today, it's a HUGE improvement over my old, heavy Alpine Archery bow. It's much shorter than my Alpine and I will like that in the blind and deer stand. I am in love y'all!

Congrats! Nice bow!

Thanks Slappy! Got a chance to shoot it about a dozen times yesterday, feels good but he had his first pin set at 40 yds. I'm going to reset the pins because my farthest shot will probably be 50. No big deal, just more practice

First pin at 40?!  Might want to try from the top down this time.... :pleased:

THAT would have made sense! I started at what I thought it would be set at (remember I'm a short shootin' rookie) 20 yards, then 25, then 30, and thought "Really?" ha ha. Put it at 40 and dead on.

I guess he could have aimed or shot different than I do thus having a different POI?

Could be a number of things, peep sight, arrows, or the sight could have shifted around. No telling! I bet you'll have that thing dialed in soon enough though. Bow season what, 5-6 months away? Cool!

Last week I decided to start practicing with my bow for deer season since it's less than 3 months away

I got it dialed in for me and have been shooting at 10 and 20 yards every night after work. Longest shots I can get here at home. It shoots so much different than my old bow, especially since it's a 29" draw length which is what I need, and the old one was 30". That helped alot but is different in learning again. I'm really focusing on my form and release so I can be better at longer distances should I ever get a farther shot opportunity in the woods.

I'm so pumped up that we are so close now when in January I just wanted to cry because it was so far away haha

Anyone else shooting already?

Man I have been wanting a bow so bad. I had a nice PSE in college but had to get rid of it to free up some funds. I just never got back into it. With the technology we have in bows now you don't HAVE to spend the big bucks on a Matthews to get a good quiet bow. Not to knock them as they are good bows and better in some aspects but PSE makes some fine bows too.

When you can find a spot with a good backstop and plenty of room you should try shooting at 80-100 yards. Just for fun of course but we used to get the biggest kick out of hitting bulls eye (luck) that far. I'd do it in the off season though.

I'm a long way from those kind of distances but would love to be comfortable at 50 yards for hunting. My form and confidence has come a long way but this things is so much lighter with more let off, that it's like I'm learning it all over again (which is fun to me). I actually look forward to getting home to shoot this one versus kinda dreading shooting the old one because I couldn't shoot it as long per practice outing.

There are lots of muscle memory exercises and all sorts of tips and tricks to help you shoot better that it can be confusing which ones to focus on. So to confuse you even further, I do recommend shooting at longer distances like Maroon mentioned. 60-100 yards even if you can find the space. This will help you aim small and miss small. And if you can hit at 90 yards, 40 won't look so tough.

One thing that has helped me gain confidence is purchasing some appropriately grained (100gr for me) Blunt Tips that screw into your arrow where the broad head goes. With these you can shoot practice your yardage estimations and then see how accurate you are. Had a friendly competition with my cousin on a Gatorade bottle in a field once. We hit it 5 times in a row until it just got too far. Haha.
