Yet another Comcast rant...

I'm not defending Comcast because I dislike a lot of things they do, but why are you mad at them and not Govt for the increase in taxes?

I'm longing for the day Google fiber is available. I can't wait to call Comcast and tell them to cancel. The conversation with the retention department will be fun...

Sorry to tell you this Bubba, but we are not in Google's fiber area.  At least not right now.  The map they put out shows the area stopping at Morton Mill and Old Harding.

Yep, and net neutrality may have started the ball rolling for ISPs to be categorized as a utility service, which is going to bring in a few more taxes.

What map?  I've not seen anything official from Google yet.

That is really quite slow for cable, but reeeaaallly sloooow for "business class". Grade C indeed.

Oh, don't get me wrong it could certainly be much better, but I live in brentwood where almost every one of my neighbors also have comcast on their ancient infrastructure, and thanks to the huge lots my options on DSL are even more slim due to my distance from node. If our market wasn't so saturated my pings would be much better. On residential service at this same address I was seeing frequent drops, and 10-20 more ms on my average ping!

I do know what fast internet is supposed to feel like, here's a test from my desk a min ago. lol

When they made the announcement they showed a map of Nashville with an overlay of their initial coverage area.  It covered the majority of Davidson but not all of it.

Just seen a news story that Comcast is now putting 2gb fiber to over a million homes in Atlanta. Google has officially introduced competition into the market.

Any other Comcast customers get a notice of a $21 price hike due to taxes this month? I doubt it, but if anyone has please post up.

Obviously not just tax increase.

Again, all you have to do is look at past and present bill to see where the diff is. You've probably just run out of the lower pricing span that your last "deal" covered, the x amount for first 12 or 24 months.

My understanding is that map was made by a third party, not Google and was taken down because it wasn't accurate.

Otherwise I may well have to move, since I basically live at Morton Mill and Old Hickory ;)

Here's ours, the cache engine was on the fritz and was killing the ping:

It kicks around 400/down and 200/up after 5pm, I think AT&T lets everyone have free reign on their level 3 fiber downtown after business hours.

:(

One day I'll be a slave to the comcast overlords again.  I always took them for granted before I moved, now I'm stuck with this and 10GB per month.

Yeah, happiness all depends on what I pay for vs what I get. Previously I was paying around the same for "up to" 50mbps down, limited to 300 gb per month, with frequent outages, jitter issues, and terrible customer service. Now I have "at least" 12mbps down, no cap, and great customer service for around the same price with "acceptable" speed for what I pay. Google on the other hand will for the same monthly charge provide gigabit fiber which obviously beats the pants off all of comcast's nashville price points and services.

I switched to comcast business at 99.95 a month for 2 years.  No caps and 50Mbps connection.  Yes it is more than getting consumer but you also get priority service and since I have switched I have not had one outage (3 months now).  Before I would have to reset my modem at least once a month to get service back. Of course it helps that my company picks up half the bill each month.

I'm crossing my fingers that map was premature. Would the neighbors complain we ran fiber through their yards? :)

Dang.

Dang is right. I'll be hitting 62mbps once I install a new card in my dinosaur pc. Only gets me to 30 now.

You mean ethernet card? Surely it's already 100 mbps capable?

Network adapter card or ethernet card, is there a difference? PC runs like a top just ancient. Found one for $10. Better than shelling out for a new machine right now.

Same thing. My point is, you must already have one to be getting 30Mbps, and it is almost certainly already capable of getting 100Mbps.

And that will start a whole new adventure that will make you hate them even more.
