thoughts on Ruger SR45

My Daughter Shay is a High Caliber pistol lover like her dad lol. A LE friend of hers has a SR45 for sale and said he would take $275 if she wants it. He has had it about a year and says he put around 300 rounds thru it. I've never owned a Ruger myself but by what I've read they seem to be good pistols. Just wondering if anyone has a SR45 and what your thoughts on the weapon are. This will be a home defence weapon for her. Her carry weapon is a Shield and she loves it.

I've Never owned a Ruger semi-auto, but know people that have and they say they are great guns. And being only a year old and 300 rds shot through it at 275.00, heck yeah I'd buy it, its about a 450.00-550.00 gun.

It's an excellent pistol and that's a steal of a deal that either you or her should jump all over and not look back. If she later decides it doesn't fit her hands well then she'll have some excellent trading material  The SR-45 has a more comfortable grip angle and somewhat smaller grip circumference then its near cousin the G-21. I genuinely like the SR-9 I own and am very likely to be purchasing an SR-9c in the near future with an SR-45 before the end of the year.

I had a sr9 and wife carries an sr9c, both have been fantastic guns. If the 45 is as good as they are you better jump on that deal. Edited by Bad_Bowtie

If you don't, I'll take it. I love mine; one of the most accurate, easy to shoot .45's I've ever had. Light enough to carry all day with no fatigue, too. That's a screaming deal on it.

Snatch that sucker before some other person does!

I bought one just because I got a great price on it from a member here. It is one of my "never sell guns."

Shoots great and has light recoil. Can't get any better than that.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, "I wish I had kept that P 'series'" (pick your favorite number: P89, P90, P95, etc.) I could practically buy a Hammerli 210. I think the K's are about the same.  Nothing sexy but so practical.  At that price it is a forever gun because you couldn't replace it for anywhere close to 275.00.

Yep, you should grab it.

I don't have a 45; I have a 9c.  Either way, as others have said, that's a great deal.  The only issue I've had with my SR9c was with the magazine disconnect.  Over time and probably at least a couple of thousand rounds, it started causing light strikes.  It's a easy fix to just take the disconnect out which I have done.  I have had no problems since then.  I am also certain that, if I were to send it to Ruger, they would take care of it.

I have a P90 I've had for about 15 years. It shoots great. My wife is small, but if we go to the range and we have it, she lays claim on it and let's 'er rip and she's a great shot with it too. It's her bedstand pistol. I pity the fool that kicks our door in if I'm not home. LOL...It's also the reason I say "DON'T SHOOT...IT'S ME" when I come home after dark.

Great deal!  You should jump on it!

As for  the wish that I had never sold my P-series... I had a P-89.  Great shooting pistol, but damn was it LARGE!  Too large.  It was also uncomfortable to carry concealed.  It was thick and when you tucked in a IWB holster the safety seemed to always find a tender spot where ever it was at.  So no, I don't regret selling it off.

That being said, I wouldn't mind having one of these SR45s!  I've heard really good things about them!

Buy it.  if she doesn't like it I will buy it for that much.  I love my SR45.  They have a very close in feel to a Glock.

Thanks

So...does she now own a Ruger?

Yep, she bought it this morning, we have been at the range all day enjoying it, she is very happy with it and I have to admit I'm a little jealous.

I knew it... lol

Yeah, I'd be a bit jealous to given the sweetheart of a deal she got on that pistol. But on the bright side now you know for yourself it's a good pistol. Imitation and tweaking the design & manufacturing process are the strong suits of Ruger of late. To their credit they simplify, improve and produce the product for less in their SR.

I'm pretty sure her being a young attractive blond had a lot to do with the price he gave her, he seemed really disappointed that I was taking her to the range to shoot not him.

I am soooooo ready for them to do a SR45 compact...

I'm with you, I would be all over a SR45 compact.  The more I shoot my SR9c, the more I like it, especially for summer carry.
