My family was visiting Pigeon Forge last weekend. On our way home we stopped at a Cracker Barrel before hitting the interstate. We had an older gentlemen that waited on us that obviously didn't have much experience with serving. He was very polite and after our order he said let this old Marine get this order in. By the time our breakfast was done he had been probably the most polite and courteous waiter I have ever had. A friend from home was in the restaurant and we picked up his bill. Anyway for our waiter we had left a tip that was almost the total of the bill. While we where checking out he ran out to make sure we meant to leave that much. Wanted to know if he was supposed to split with the other waiter which we told him no. That the tip was for the great service for the meal and to our country, he almost was in tears and said thanks that he was working there because both of his boys where overseas and his daughter in law was in Korea. He has his grandchildren for eleven months til they get home , and needed every penny he could make for the kids. Just thought that was worth sharing about the kind of people this country never hears about.

I always start at 20% and go down from there or if everything is perfect we give a more. Good service os hard to find anymore. We normally get the two extremes, wait staff that onviously do not want to serve or be there or those that will not leave you alone and let you eat. Has a manager ask us to do a survey on an iPad just as we got our food. We told him not now and he acted confused why we wanted to eat first. Had others that ask us how the food is every time they walk by, every minute, and want to discuss why they like it too. Those aggravate me more than any others because we do not want to be rude but we also want to eat.

But we recently went to Longhorn Steakhouse and had a really great experience. Did everything we asked and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. We asked for nutritional menus and the manager printed them out and brought them out personally to speak to use. Could not say enough good things about it. Again, perfectly.

We always do at least 20% ourselves. This time even with the service being excellent something just told me to leave more. I think our tab was thirty one dollars or so and we left a twenty. So it wasn't like these stories on tv where someone leaves a hundred  but he probably deserved it.
