So I had to come up to St Louis this weekend for work, and I actually got to bring the family with me this time. As we are coming over Monteagle from Chattanooga I realize I had forgotten my carry gun! For a bit I actually debated on turning around and making the 45 minute trip BACK to Chattanooga just to pick it up, as St. Louis is not a place I want to be caught without it, especially in the light of recent events of the last few months around here, but we were already running late. So I mention to my wife the predicament and she agrees immediately that we either need to turn around and go get mine or suggests we stop somewhere around Nashville to buy a new gun!!!! She knows the importance of carrying. Needless to say her comment caught me off guard and the gears started turning immediately, but I already knew what I wanted. For the last month or so I have been thinking about selling my current edc (beretta nano) and upgrading to a large caliber edc anyway, so this was all the excuse I needed!! We stopped at the Academy in Smyrna and they had exactly what I wanted, and it was on sale too!!!! We were only in the store for about 30 mns total. Its kind of scary trusting a gun Ive never shot before but if its anything like my xdm there is no cause for worry. This is my first 45 and I cant wait to break it in when I get back. Range report to come!

Hmm, forgetting my carry gun and buying a brand new gun, loading it up and trusting it for my carry gun - 2 things I hope to never do.

And how did you carry it? Did you have a holster or buy a new one?

But anyways, congrats on the new gun.

How do you forget your carry gun?

Every day before I walk into my daughters school to pick her up, i take it off and set it in the door of my truck. I usually put it right back on when I get back, except for this time. I had 1000 other things on my mind trying to get ready to leave for this trip. When we got home I got it out of my truck and took it in the house and from there just forgot about it. Just one of those things where you get out of rhythm and it disrupts your routine.

Its like TrickyNicky said, would you rather go around unarmed? It's a Springfield, I'm sure itd go bang in the very unlikely event if I had to pull the trigger.

If I hadnt been tossing around the idea of a new edc anyway, I would not have gotten this one. I guess i would have turned around and cussed the whole trip back to the house to get the nano because I refuse to go venturing into a foreign big city unarmed. Its just how the events of yesterday panned out made my mind up for me, so to speak. My wife knew I had been thinking about a new gun anyway too, so I think this was her way of saying go ahead lol.

I'd rather trust a gun I've never shot than walk around unarmed

Glad to see somebody else gets it

I always carry a .45.  I'd like to handle that one and see how heavy it is compared to my G36 & Colt New Agent.  It looks pretty sweet.  I wish I'd thought of that excuse.

I think one of those will be living in my house in the near future.

An XDs .45, or a wife that says "just go buy another gun."?

I'd like to know where to find the later.

Even if I forget my carry gun, my wife always has hers.

The last time I was in St. Louis, I carried a 380 and was quite glad I had it. Today, I would feel woefully under armed there with a 380.

Ive got to light a fire under my wife to go get hers! She wants to, but time is in high demand but low supply these days.

The XDs 3.3 45 ACP is a little fireplug and a very good defensive carry pistol which I'm tempted to buy as I have the same model in 9mmP.

Understandable mistake - I have kids and you'd be surprised what I forget on a regular basis with the daily grind (cell phone, work laptop, belt, matching socks, kids, etc.)

Congrats on finding an awesome wife...and on the XD. Best to be prepared no matter what. Also, congrats on getting rid of the Nano- apologies to any Nano lovers out there.
