Field Grade International Harvester Corp M1 Garand from CMP South Store

The CMP recently announced that they had a few IHC M1 Garand Rifles that would be available for order and a small quantity of Field Grade rifles would be placed in the CMP stores on Thursday 3/19. I happened to be near the South Store on Saturday and decided to stop by when the store opened to see if any of the IHC rifles were still available. There were only about a dozen or so left, but I was able to pick one out from the leftovers that was actually pretty nice for a Field Grade. It has a few minor dings (a little bit of character) but still looks good overall. Someone apparently tried to remove the rack number, so I may give the stock a BLO scrub to make that look a little better. The metal looks very nice with only a few very small light rust spots. And the barrel measurements are MW 2+ and TE 3+. I think I'll keep it. [emoji3]

Good timing being near the South Store at the right time.  Very, VERY Nice Field Grade!

What barrel does it have?

Thanks! All of the Field Grades that they put in the North and South Stores had the LMR barrel...and they were priced accordingly, but I'm happy that I was able to get it. [emoji4]

With an original LMR barrel...., You Did OUTSTANDING!  :woohoo:

If that rifle was one of the leftovers, I wonder what the other IHCs looked like on Thursday morning when the doors opened at the South Store.

I got my "Tractor Gun" during the CMP's first release of IHCs last year.  My barrel condition matches yours and I will tell you that its one of the most accurate Garands that I have.

Awesome!

Are there cartouches on the stock?

Mine is a ( I guess field grade) H & R with a 53 date on the barrel. But I would guess the stock was in on some action.

Shoots like a mofo,  I bet yours is just as good,

No cartouches, but there are some arsenal inspector stamps...P, and I believe an RA-P stamp. I hope to be able to shoot it some time over the next month or so...weather and time permitting.
