Decided to not pull the trigger (no pun intended) on a 5.56 can, until I assemble the SPR, but that won't be until I get my backpay (which with DFAS, can be a few years).

My wife has actually taken really well to pistol shooting, bought her a HK VP9 which is definitely our favorite pistol in 9mm and she wants a suppressor for it.

On hkparts.net they sell threaded barrels for it, a little pricey but I haven't heard anything too bad about the barrel itself.

We are looking at an Octane 9 to go with the 1/2x28 barrel they sell.

My questions are...
1) Are the threads on the barrel true to bore? I dont think theyre actual H&K production...dont want any baffle strikes
2) Should I go 1/2x28 or go for that funky Euro lefthand (whatever the measurement is)? Or would it not matter? Heard left handed wont loosen up, Ill write it off as heresay
3) All searches and researching Ive done points to the Octane 9 being the best...I will NEVER own a pistol in a caliber other than 9mm nor will I EVER buy a 300BLK again...with those parameters in mind should I stick with the Octane 9?
4) Are there any parts Ill need to replace on the VP9? Springs or sights for it to function and be able to see the sights above the can?

Thanks in advance!

Couple of things.. 1st off, Adam (HKParts.net) known him for years.. use to do some clipping and pinning for him back in the 90s when he was still wet behind the ears ;o)

He doesn't sell junk so I'd expect the barrel to be top notch.  That said, you should always install your can and where possible look through it and be sure you can't visually see anything that doesn't look right.

Thread wise I'd go with the more common 1/2x28 as that will provide you more host possibilities down the road.  Octane is a great can, I love them.  If you have any thoughts of doing a 40 or 45 later I'd suggest the 45 Octane.  I ran one for a while on my MP5s and can't tell any noticiable difference between the 9 and 45.. 45 is slightly longer so that may be a consideration on a pistol.

And I'd have no reservations running suppressed 300 through either octanes.

You will need a 1/2x28 piston mount for the octanes for the VP9 to cycle.  For your rifles I'd recommend a fixed mount.

I have one of the very first 1/2 x 28 threaded barrels offered by HKParts.net last fall.  I dropped in the barrel and it ran like a champ on a 9mm can. No need to change anything else.  My point of impact did shift to the left a tad, about 2 inches at 10 yards, but groups were still very good. The can is a k-baffle style made by a local shop, and yes, I have beat it up a little.  The booster is GemTech.

1.  Like law enforcement said, HKParts is good to go.  Trust parts you get from them.

2.  1/2x28 for me personally.  Just like the universality of it.

3.  Octane is great.  You won't regret it.

4.  You need a booster if the Octane you are buying doesn't come with one.  If it does, then you are set.  You will need taller sights.  No way around that.  Springs should be fine as is.

Sweet! I appreciate all the quick responses.

Ill have to check Big Iron Munitions or TN Gun Country for the Octane 9 and ask them for the booster.

I was thinking of getting higher sights anyway, I know the wife still uses them.

Any ammunition I should stay away from as far as it not cycling or fouling the hell out of the can? Like steel cased or some oddball round like the "RIPs" ?

lol, avoid RIP...just because you don't want to be "that guy".

I have run all sorts though mine with no problem.  For quietness, I have used Fiocchi, Remington, Winchester, American Eagle, and Prvi all in 147 or 158 grain FMJ's and all have run great.  I have heard before that the 158's may actually be 357 bullets, but they are not advertised as such.  Having said that, I haven't had any problem with them either.
