How are tattoos priced?

Thinking about a tattoo..know little to nothing about them.

How do the price their work?

Can you bring in a sample of what you want?

Pricing really varies by tattoo artist. But don't try and bargain shop for tattoos. Really look at the artists' albums and make sure their style is right for you. Most artists have no problem working with something that you bring in and they'll sit down and talk to you about what you want.

They usually quote by the hour and give you a close approximate for the amount of time that the work you're wanting done will require. Most artists encourage you to bring a sample with you to design from, or even a tattoo template showing exactly what you want. Many will already have books for you to flip through for "canned" designs or something to inspire a custom design.

I'd recommend Lone Wolf and Emperor locally, by the way.

Most shops have a minimum of 45 or 50 dollars. If you have a big tattoo done that requires hours of work can cost upwards of 150 hour for a good tattoo artist.

Pricing depends on several factors... amount of color, how many hrs it will take, size of the tattoo, detail work, etc, etc. Then once you factor all of that in, you have the variable pricing of what each studio/artist might charge. You'll find out that Studio A might be cheaper than Studio B, but still more expensive than Stuido C.

However, as bkelm stated, don't shop around based soley on the price. Look at their albums and photos of past work... talk to them and see what their specialty is (tribal, b&w, oriental, color, etc etc) and then make a decision. One artist may be amazing at tribal work, but straight suck at portraits or faces.

Do your homework. And remember... as with most things... you get what you pay for, when it comes to tattoos.

It is always good to make friends with a tattoo artist. Friend of mine did this one. It is on my left leg outer calf muscle area. The picture looks a little fuzzy but the colors are still good.

Definitely don't "bargain shop" for a tattoo!

I'd recommend Mike and Laura @ Music City Tattoo, or Jason St. Clair @ Lone Wolf

Oh, and always tip your artist... especially if you plan on coming back.

It HURTS! Bad! But the real pain comes when you go back for the touch up!

It really hurts in certain places,and others not so bad.Like the one on my elbow I couldn't even hardly feel.

Pain is relative to the person experiencing it.

I've got 4 tatts, and plans for more... one on each shoulder, one on the inside forearm, and one on my left chest. None of them hurt. Unless you're one of those girls that hates getting shots.

Well I hate getting shots,but I'm no stranger to pain.I guess its just the type of pain that gets to you.

I have broken my back in two places,broken two ribs,ruptured spleen(still have no clue what a spleen does:p) punctured lung,and had my back literally cut open like a gutted fish from one wreck......eh......

The constant piercing of the skin by a group of needles at 200 times a minute that last for hours.....ouch!
