Anyone use the Ameriglo Ghost Ring Night Sights? I just purchased a used G17 with Sevigny Carry 2 dot NS on it and don't think I will really dig them. I will most likely replace them and was thinking about trying some of these. I have seen them in person one time but have not shot them.

I have always used traditional 3 dot NS by Trijicon or Meprolight and really like them. I have no complaints at all.

I strayed a bit earlier this year and tried the XS Big Dot NS on a couple of Glocks and a Sig. I initially thought I liked them. They were easy to pick up quickly. Once the new, cool factor wore off I decided that I likely would be point shooting at really close range anyway and didn't like the fact I was giving up accuracy on longer shots. I also found that when I used the XS sights I actually became a bit slower as I was trying to transition between the usual 3 dot sight picture to the "stack the dot on the stick" sight picture. I know, I know. It's a training issue. I chose to go back to a uniform sight platform across the board on my pistols - all 3 dots.

My basic questions for those that have tried the Ghost Ring NS are;

Do you find them faster/slower/same as 3 dots?

Are the dots in the rear ring large enough to really pick up and line up in low light? They look awfully small.

Do you feel you give up any accuracy on longer shots like with XS Big Dots?

This pistol will likely not be carried much. It will mostly be a HD pistol, stashed for the wife in her "safe" place. I figured at HD distances she could just roughly line it up (front sight inside ring somewhere) and as long as the rear ring covers center of mass she would be good to go.

Thoughts?

IMO, a silly product.

The whole point of a Ghost Ring is to have it close to your eye so it will "ghost" out (think rifles). At arms length on a pistol, all it does is obstruct vision, with no benefits. Since you mention a HD situation, the previous would only get worse in dim light.

Again, just my opinion.

Let us know what you choose.

Todd - I hear what you are saying. I kind of liken them to the XS Big Dots I tried before. Makes sense in theory but in reality ... not quite as good as one would expect.

I am torn. I kind of want to try them ... mostly, just to see what they are all about. On the other hand ... the only reason I purchased this pistol was because a friend needed money fast and offered it at a great (I mean really great) deal. If I start fidgeting with it I will lose any savings I have now. I might just black out the lamp on the rear so it doesn't mess with me and go with them as is.

I found a guy on my local (GA) forum that lives in town and has them installed on a G17. I invited him to my club range this weekend so I can try them out. At least this way I can try them before I dump more cash into the pistol.

I have almost talked myself out of them in the first place now. I got a great deal on the pistol and don't want to put any extra cash into it if I don't HATE the Sevigny sights.

I will let you know what I think next week.

I had a chance to try the Ameriglo Ghost Ring NS today on a Glock. They were mounted on a G22 with a 9mm conversion.

I liked them. They were fast and accurate enough. I only shot 2 mags @ 7 yrds but was pleased enough with the groups considering I had never used that sight setup before.

I like the tall, thin front sight quite a lot and the fact that the target is not obstructed by a traditional rear sight. I feel confident if you placed the rear ring center of mass on a man sized target at semi-close range you would be quite effective.

I also think they would work well for those of us who have trouble shooting with both eyes open. I am one of those guys that usually has to close one eye to really get on the bull.

I don't think I am going to purchase a set right now though. It is more about not wanting to spend any $ than anything though. I would rather spend my $ right now (post-election) on extra mags and ammo.
