Repurpose thread

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Have not be able to find a TGO repurpose/upcycled thread. I figured I would start one just to get my creative juices flowing. Lets see some of your handy work turning something that was junk, scrap, salvage or even brand new into something that it was not meant to be. Doesn't have to be firearm related.

I don't have a pic but my most recent repurpose was of a old washing machine drum and a old round wash pan as the base turned into a fire pit. With all the holes on the sides this thing burns pretty hot. I need to hole saw some ash drop holes in the bottom at some point. I am looking for another drum to do some other ideas with.

I have big plans when it warms up for some metal 55gal drums that I get from work to make some cool things with.

Well...I'm currently working on an AC arc welder using two transformers from microwaves, I'm re-wrapping the coils to make them low-voltage, high-amp. After that is finished, I'm going to tap into it to make a mini arc furnace. I plan on trying to utilize it for forging using a careful eye, with the right molds I can also use it for casting of various metals, even steel...and stone (read lava). A full-size arc furnace can melt just about anything, mine is limited to the amount of heat my hands/gloves, and the wires, can handle. I have a few other transformers to play around with too, another microwave one, one from an old stereo receiver, and another small one from a slightly newer stereo.

My inspirations/how-tos:

I also made these for my wife's cousin's baby shower, her and her husband are really into fishing, so the theme was fish/fishing.

A fish from a stainless fork.

Two fishhook hearts using real hooks and wire recovered from the microwaves. I had a 3rd, but failed to snap a pic before the winner left.

And a paracord bracelet with a hand forged copper fishhook from a piece of 4ga copper wire beaten to thickness and shape.

This bracelet and necklace set were presents for my mom using extra silverware from her childhood.

I have become somewhat of a Pinterest junkie, mostly for manlier blacksmith stuff, though. I have a spoon-and-fork owl pendant on the bench for my wife, and I have plans for some steampunk type jewelry and some firearms related pieces, plus more plans for DIY tools and equipment.

Becareful with the hook bracelet. I had a friend that had one like that and the hook got stuck in their wrist.

It's not a real hook, the "point" is way too blunt to puncture flesh, besides, the copper would bend/deform before it even got close to that.

Thanks. I just realized that the heart with the copper wire is actually photographed backwards. Edited by Broomhead

I make loud bang noises with the money the wife earns. Does that count?

Actually I do try to repurpose as much as possible. I am a stay at home dad and volunteer at my sons school. I retired from the Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate as such I have turned a wrench or two. I tend to get sucked into jobs at school. A while back I was asked to assemble one of those plastic storage bins for the gym teacher. Its a stand up deal. I repurposed a automatic garage door rail into a hanging rod for the said storage building. Well last year some jackarses broke into it and stole gym equipment. (It sort of makes me hate people to think about it) Anyway I am now in the process of repairing said storage bin but this time I have some stainless steel rods from an old crib that I am going to use as hinge pins so the doors cant be pulled off. I also have to fabricate some metal door handles to replace the plastic junk that came with it.

I am waiting to see a pile of tire lead weights and then a pile of bullets.

I don't know what he is made of but it looks like he is about to pee on your yard lol.

I have a co-worker who had her deck torn down. I took all the PT lumber for it and have made ton of stuff from it. A ramp for my shed, I used some of it to extend the deck on our house, target frames for a local private range, two gates for my moms house, a frame for a composter that also utilized an old 55 gal drum, a chicken coop, and I still havve a pile of lumber about 2" high.

Certainly not as impressive as some of the other works here, but I figured I would share a couple of recent small projects.  My wife is really the project manager on most of our little projects around the house.  She finds stuff on Pinterest that "we" should do, which of course translates into, "Honey, I want you to do this for me." If you other gentlemen don't know what Pinterest is, consider yourself lucky.

This is a "rustic" bedside table from old pallet wood, and I made the lamp from an old wine bottle.

Made a little rack for our dog leashes and such from some of the same pallet.
