Stones River East Fork smallies

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a good place to put my canoe in the East Fork of the Stones River for small mouth fishing.   I've tried the Mona boat ramp but it was slow moving and not much fun with a canoe.  I read in a fishing guide a while back that the East Fork was good for small mouth but not sure what area it was referring to.  I know the Duck and Buffalo are good just trying to find a place a little closer. Any tips?

I used to go to Fall Creek of Mona Rd. and it was always good to me but it's been a few years since I have been there.

I have always fished for Smallmouth up near and past 4 corners Marina. Never really tried to fish for them in the stones.

THANKS, THAT LOOKS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO TAKE THE BOAT NEXT TIME I HAVE IT OUT.  I'M TRYING TO GET MORE INTO THE RIVERS WITH MY CANOE SO THERE IS NO BOAT TRAFFIC AND HOPEFULLY LESS PRESSURE.

East Fork of the Stones river was were we always fished when the white bass were running.  Never caught any smallies there, just largemouth and white bass.

I'm going to hit a spot up Saturday around Long hunter in the Yak for some smallmouth. I don't catch to many small mouth around here but I also don't fish for them to often. I fished the Caney yesterday and moved up to the lake for a couple hours and caught a nice 18" smallie to cap my day off in the rain.

I've only been on the East Fork a couple of times and never was fishing either time, didn't seem like it was that cold water that smallies like but I could be wrong.

Always had the most luck just down stream of that dam, you can put in right by it

My plan was to paddle upstream from the Mona boat ramp to that dam but only got 1/2 way before I turned back. It was just too far from where I put in.  I thought that part of the river looked promising from 231, I'm glad to hear you had luck there.  Next time I will launch by the dam like you suggested.

You oughta fish Mill Creek through town for smallies. You might get your arm broke. We just waded it when I fished it. Wear waders it's one of the most polluted waterways in TN.

I hope you are into "catch and release"...due to the humongus landfill (Mount Trashmore) at Walter Hill, I'm not sure it's safe to eat any of the fish out of the Stones River. Mona boat ramp is not that much farther down the river! Haven't seen any fish with three eyes there yet... but, a massive land-fill can't do much to purify the water!

That land fill is new a nuff to have a liner supposed to keep the bad stuff out of the ground and the ground out of the bad suff they even pump off the methane and sell it to help with the smell
