AFTER MARKET GRIPS FOR S&W 66 4" SQUARE BUTTI

I picked up a used Model 66-2 with S&W target grips which are too thick for my hand. I'm looking for a comfortable slim after market grip in rubber or wood, and not pricey. I bought this gun to carry in woods and shoot.

You are little more restricted with the square butt. I normally use the old Pachmyer Gripper grips on a square butt model. If you can find them though the Uncle Mike's square butt, K-frame boot grips are probably the best all around for a carry square butt model. Assuming those the Targets came with that gun, that Smith is worth 50-100 bucks more with those grips.

I don't think you can beat the beat the rubber Hogues for the range or field. $27; probably find for less if you look.

For wood I like the Ahrends, but I wouldn't use them for carry in the field.

Another big Ahrends fan here. I've got three different sets and love them all, especially the little combat grips on my 2" 64.

They are nice on a round butt, but require larger hands for comfort in the square butt models.

Have owned and extensively used the Uncle Mike & Pachmayr Presentation grips with good results. Up until the older wood factory target grips became so expensive we used to resize them to fit.

I bought the Hogue finger groove grip for the K/L frame. Bought one used for $15. I wish they made this grip without finger grooves.

Check the gun auction sites. They will have a large selection of used grips to fit your gun. Usually at fairly reasonable prices. 

Rubber would be the cheapest way to go. If you prefer wood, check out Herrett's. I'm quite fond of their Shooting Stars grips.
