Turkey Chokes

I just picked up a new Benelli M2 and need a good turkey choke.

 

What are you guys using?

I used a Kicks Goblin Thunder in my SBEII for years until I sold the shotgun. It worked just fine. Nice tight pattern. Shot a turkey at 50yds with a 3.5" mag. Edited February 26, 2015 by Lumber_Jack

For an M2? Benelli Crio Plus Extended Turkey Choke Tubes.

By far the best turkey choke I've tried.

I use it on my M2 (tactical set up) and it reliably out patterns longer barreled guns every time.

I don't really have one I can recommend, but I'm happy we're talking about turkey season!!

I'm using a Pure Gold, but it really depends on what shell you want to shoot. The new lead longbeards XR have been said to shoot best from an unported choke.

If you're buying an un-ported choke, I'd look at the Carlsons

I liked my extra full cause I had a 26" barrel. It helps keep that pattern tight at longer distances.

But my 870 full choke with a 30" works like a dream :)

Good advise right there. This will give you the best result with the least investment. 

 

I have a decent stash of Hevi Shot Magblends that shoot very well from my gun/choke, so that's what I am using this year. Next year, or the year after, depending on how long my stash lasts, I am going to switch to the lead longbeard XR's. They are cheaper per shot and I have seen some great long range patterns from them.

I have used a bunch of chokes over the years and for my Mossberg 835 the Indian Creek Choke has put the best pattern down range. I'm shooting Winchester Longbeard xr #6 and get awesome patterns out to 60 yards.

Shaun, what constrition is your Indian Creek? 

 

I'm going to need a new choke if I go to lead. I have always read good things about the Indian Creek chokes.

I shot a Mossberg plain ole extra full for years, killed many turkeys. Then went to a relatively cheap "undertaker" which was a bit better. I recently bought a hevi shot tube and took it to the patterning targets. WOW. I think maybe to tight. I like em up close and personal and it leaves little room for error.
My advice if you go with a really tight choke, at least put a red dot or reflex sight on. Don't trust the old point and shoot with a bead method on close birds. I was humbled by a gobbler at 7 steps last season lol. (I can laugh about it now, not then)

I've been meaning to get another choke just to try but, keep using my Hastings .640 choke. A lot of chokes will probably work good for you.

I bought a box of Win. Longbeard XR #5 and they shoot great. I've not shot over 40 yards but, judging by how they did, they should be good at 50 or so.
