I have a question. My son and I are going to Buds tomorrow and he said someone told him if you use the range you have to purchase the ammo from them, is this true? Just wondering because I have a 100 rounds of .38 I was going to run threw my .357 tomorrow but if I can't bring in outside ammo I'm just going to leave it at home.

Not that a 3rd comment is needed but I can confirm this isn't true. Unless something has changed since October when I went, you can bring your own ammo. It's a very nice range and a fantastic store.

that's what I thought, his buddy is a full of crap blowhard lol I figured he didn't know what he was talking about.

No, you don't.  Rentals might be another matter though, not sure.

Their website says you must buy ammo for rentals from them at time of rental.

OnTarget in Murfreesboro has the same policy on their rentals due to liability issues.

Witch is total BS.  The reason that don't want you using outside ammo is because people would use the cheapest crappiest ammo they could get there hands since it isn't there gun they don't care about it.  Ranges just don't want to have to deal with all the headaches that would bring and to be honest I don't blame them.

Thanks

I've been known to shoot cheap crappy ammo in some of my own guns, it cleans up.  I think their concern has more to do with bad reloads.  Can't blame them, I wouldn't want Bubba running his homemade loads through my gun.

Well I went, I shot, and I decided on a M&P .45 I get up to the back round check counter and this asshat blond lady tells me I can't use my HCP for the check, since my son drove it was my only ID so I tell them I have used it for several purchases including one at Buds and she loudly tells me IT HAS TO BE A DL, at witch time I loudly tell her FINE I WILL SPEND MY MONEY ELSEWHERE and walked out, Buds lost a good customer today!!

A lot of places won't take a HCP as ID, anyone have any idea why?  Personally I just use my DL for ID, I have no reason to let the store clerk and everyone around me know that I have a HCP.  Of course at a place like Bud's it's probably a given but I just don't make it a practice.

Why? Because they're uninformed, ignorant or their boss is. Want a laugh, hand them a US passport. Edited by peejman

I mean it's a gun store they SHOULD know an HCP is perfectly fine to use for a background check, her attitude is what really pissed me off not necessarily her ignorance I am there spending money, witch I can easily spend at several other gun shops, is a little respect to much to ask for?

We'll I gave her the HCP and she said it has to be a DL, then I started telling her that I had used my HCP on a previous purchase at Buds and she cut me off and restated LOUDLY and without even looking at me, that it has to be a DL,an HCP wouldn't work, so I ask for my HCP back and she says (again loudly) give us a minute and we will figure it out. At witch time I loose my temper just a tad and tell he to give me my HCP and I will spend my money elsewhere. Then she finally looks up at me and hands it back and I leave.

Sent an email to Buds, they responded and told me that the HCP can't be used as ID to buy a firearm by law, REALLY?? So I sent them a link to the TBI website where it says that it can, haven't heard back from them yet.

Also the directions on the federal 4473 itself, where the ID requirements are listed, and of course the HCP satisfies them.

Right there in black and white.

And even more particularly, calls for address, DOB, expiration date if any, etc, all of which the HCP does.

On the other hand, I know of no state or federal mandate that any given type of ID must be accepted by a FFL, any more than a merchant has to accept a given type payment.
