just curious...if something like this were to come into play again and you already own, let's say an AR....how easy or difficult is it to get parts like a bolt, extractor, magazines, etc, once something like this goes into effect ?

would some things be easier to get...like a bolt or extractor as compared to a magazine ?

This is great:

‘© a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

  • ‘(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
    ‘(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;
    ‘(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;
    ‘(iv) a manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and
    ‘(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm; and

Oh yeah I can see it know, all the P22s that have threaded barrels with a Flash suppressors on them.. Also that means that the Glock 17 or all the glocks could be an issues since there's a FA version out there (G18).

BTW, who comes up with this stuff..

Since the Glock 17 came first, I would say that the G18 is the automatic version of a semiauto firearm, so I would say they are safe from that part but would most likely fall prey to limited mag capacity rules. Not to mention, it says that any gun would have to fall into 2 of those categories, not just one. What I wanna know is, what would it weighing more than 50oz have to do with anything?

What the heck is part (iii) referring to? A slide? Geez that's some crazy crap!

Like it says... a shroud or heat shield, encompassing a barrel, allowing offhand support of the pistol. Think of a rail / hand guard on an AR, but on a pistol platform. Like the tek-9's and similar weapons have... or the AR pistols.

For example:

part (iii) looks (to me) like it refers to an AR style forend, like those on most carbine pistols.

A barrel shroud? I thought that was "the shoulder thing that goes up"?

Ok, another question for those of you who experienced the AWB.

Were manufacturers still allowed to manufacture "pre-ban" style uppers?

I guess what I'm getting at is, if you were stocked up on lowers bought before the ban, would you be in the clear to assemble as many pre-ban rifles as you could?

Upper receivers are/were all the same for the most part... nothing pre- or post- ban about them. So, yes, they were still selling them during the ban. And yes, assuming you can find all the parts needed, you could still assemble your lower receivers into weapons (as long as their is a grandfather clause in any potential ban). The way Obama wants it, though, is with no grandfather clause... no exceptions... total banning of the "evil" weapons. If that happens, everyone is screwed.

They want us to burn ourselves. Nothing says "he has an illegal section III" firearm like a scold on the hand. :D

couple of questions concerning an AWB...(soory...still kind of a noob at this)

I already own an AR 15, will I be able to still get parts like magazines, bolts, or should the trigger break, would I be able to fix that. Also, I can't locate my reciept...is that something I need to prove that I purchased it before a ban would go into effect. I do have it on a rider on my insurance policy and my agent does have the serial number though. Or is the "proof of purchase" something I really need not worry about ?

Thanks in advance! :usa:

Well, during the last ban, you could still buy parts and all that, I believe. However President Elect Obamassiah touches himself when he thinks of ways to screw gun owners so the next ban or ban attempt may be completely different.

Dem leadership said yesterday that they will push for the assault weapons ban again, since it was so effective last time, and make it permanent. They say they learned lessons from the past, ha. They can't help themselves but to go too far.

This time it will be interesting, the congress is now full of blue dog dems who do not want to vote on this, they are in repub districts. But, leadership is all liberal from safe seats and they will #uck it up for the rest of their folks.

Funny, I remember reading absolute bovine scattalogy on here from several that they wouldn't go after gun rights, no no.....:screwy:

This bill presently in the hopper isn't the one to worry about. A new one will be introduced in the new congress in Jan. Also, they plan to add all semi-autos to the ban list.
