Took this picture this morning as I was getting to work.  Was on the phone with my wife letting her know I had got to work OK and said something about the pond being froze.  She said get a picture.  I only had minutes to get to my desk and clocked in, so I took 2 pictures barely paying attention and this is what came out.  I believe I am going to have it framed.

I couldn't have got a better picture had I tried.

Excellent!!

Not trying to take anything away from the professional photographers, but we rank amatuers can and do sometimes do things that are amazing.

Then again...some like me have done things that defy description in their horror. Edited by hipower

Very nice! I'm definitely an amateur, but you might consider cropping the top and bottom when you get it framed. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! A real keeper!

You did the most important first 2 steps in taking a fine photo: (1) Be there (2) "seeing the photo" in your mind's eye ... oh, and you had a camera : ) Edited by Djay3

I couldn't take a good picture if a thousand professional photographers did everything but hit the shutter for me. I SUCK at photography. I guess it's a good thing I'm mediocre at so many other things or I'd have nothing to live for.

A very nice picture.

As an aside, I brought my skates to take a lap around that pond back in 2010 when it froze over about 4 inches thick.  That year, if you will recall, we had something like 23 straight days where we never got over 30 degrees in Oak Ridge.  I went home from work there on Friday evening and told my boss I was going to skate it on Monday, but alas, it warmed up on Sunday, and by Monday it was just a little too soft to try.  That is some nasty water...I didn't want to fall into it.

Your pic is catching it as its best!

That year, someone went out on that pond and wrote SAIC, Science to Solutions in the snow on the ice in Big Letters.

We need another photo thread.  We had one but it hasn't been posted in since 2012 and I hate to revive it because it is 7 pages long and probably half of the pictures in it are no longer on their hosting sites.
