I was just checking Craigslist this evening and noticed a few ads for bottles of Pappy Vanwinkle offered for sale. Cheapest bottle I saw was for $650 all the way up to $2000 depending on age. Does it really taste that much better? I'm pretty sure I'll never know for certain. Bottles are laser coded? I thought I was a big shot when I was given a $50 bottle of rum for Christmas.

I always wanted to get me a bottle of Pappy. Sadly it has gone way out of my price range. Know the owner of a local liquer store said he gets a few, but the cheepest is 400$.

I have not had Pappy, but I have had its sister recipe, Rip Van Winkle, which is ~105 proof I think.  It was really good, but not 8 times better than Baker's, which is about the same proof.

I couldn't pay that much for a bourbon when Maker's Mark is so good, and such a bargain.

if you like a higher proofed Bourbon try Larceny.  It is fairly new.  It is a 92 proof wheated bourbon.   People seem to like it a lot.

I've tried larceny ...
I thought it was pretty good. It was better after it was open for a week or two. A bit sweeter. But the best part was it came with a $10 mail in rebate for a 750 mL bottle (a little tag hanging from the bottle neck). I actually got the rebate in about a months turn around from sending it in.

the 1.75 has a $20 rebate for one bottle. Shelf price is about 37 bucks.  A bottle of it for net 17 bucks is a steal.

It is not worth that price!!! I paid $100 for a bottle of 15yr Pappy a year ago, and I like it a lot and at that price ill probably try to get another next year. No way I would pay any more than I did. I've managed to stretch it out over time so I can justify that price. No way I'd pay $650 for anything.
