Jim Mohney, was a flight engineer on a B-24 in the Pacific. He also served as a gunner at times. He flew 36 combat missions. His granddaughters' husband visited with him a few weekends ago and recorded a few hours of his stories from his time in the AAF.

Here is the link to Jim's wartime timeline. This was compiled from a journal Jim kept during his stint in the Pacific. (It may not start at the beginning but you can navigate back to the beginning) ...

It is an honor to relive these stories of a member of the greatest generation. He lost a brother in the European Theatre and dedicated his efforts in the Pacific to his brother. His 90th birthday celebration will be in about a week and a half.

I hope his timeline journal entry's work for you folks. You will be reading mundane entry's then suddenly hit one filled with drama such as his pilot being shot down (another plane) and narrowly escaping Japanese capture.

I find it interesting that there is no mention of the bombs of august 1945 or the Japanese surrender. confused.gif

Yes. His personal journal focuses on his day to day personal experiences as opposed to big events outside his day to day sphere. Even his entry about the notice of his brother being killed in Germany doesn't reveal his anguish; he only stated the score he wanted to now settle.

Oh, by the way, in the photographs he can be identified by generally wearing his cap bill pulled up and he looks more like 15 years old than the 18 years when he enlisted. His civilian skills of military airplane assembly would have earned him a military deferment but he elected to serve his country in uniform!
