Colt 1908 25 Automatic Hammerless

I picked this Colt up today for I consider a very nice price, but the grips do not seem right. The Colt site do seem to indicate that they did ship with smooth Walnut grips, but I'm no wood expert and have no idea from a pine to an oak. If they're not the originals, I'll probably pick up a set of repro's but still hang on to these. No telling when they were made or how long they've been on the pistol but the screws seem to indicate a LONG time. Serial number dates this back to 1935. Any Colt experts around here that can help me out with identifying these grips???

Thanks in advance.

No... the serial number isn't 3939. It's 3939XX for safety sake.

I'm thinking the earlier ones had the hard rubber grips while the later ones came standard with checkered walnut. You might could have got one either way at the same time, however. I'm not sure. Other options were available for extra cost.

Mine has a 4 digit serial number with the black grips.

I used to have a newer one with walnut.

These are high quality guns.
