Insurance and Wood Burning Stove

Men of wisdom, I have a question.  Wife and I recently purchased a new home with a Buck stove insert.  We have State Farm home owners insurance, and the agent asked us if this home had a fireplace, and wood stove.  We said yes, they said they needed to come out to take pictures.  Some lady just called and setup an appointment.

My question, why?  I have googled this and have found an array of information.  However, wanted to ask my brain trust gun buddies.  Anyone have experience?  This insert is extremely heavy duty and was professionally installed.  We are also having a Chimney sweeper to sweep, clean and inspect the chimney this week.

BTW, I will soon post about my new compound, that when I am done will make Hickok45's look like a carnival shooting gallery!  Had to say that just to make this post with a hint of guns!  It is a gun forum after all, not a insurance forum!

It is to get pictures of everything so when your house burns down they can try and void your clame if it is all good and free from defects there is nothing to worry about my old house had a fireplace in it we had it removed while remodeling my home owners went down $175 a year Edited by raildog

A fire in the house is an insurance liability and your homeowners rate will be adjusted accordingly.  I hope you had the fireplace, stove insert, and chimney inspected prior to purchase.  If not, get it done.

We had a stove insert when I was a kid and they're great.  If it has blowers, have a way to run them when the power goes out.  The heating efficiency drops tremendously without the blower.

I have a free standing Jotul clean burn wood stove installed on my stone hearth. It was professionally installed with a liner running through a large field stone fire place and lined chimney. I also have S.F. insurance.  The S. F. agent took pictures, looked around and said there was no no increased fee related to the wood stove.

Edit:  And in keeping it gun related, I figure the wood burning stove keeps the humidity low.

It's usually not a problem unless it is your primary source of heat. I have TFB and they have been my insurer as long as I've owned my log home. Heat with a large wood furnace that is my primary heat source, located in my basement and tied into all my duct work, but I also have a gas fireplace and electric heaters in the bathrooms. TN Farm Bureau was the only one that would insure my house with the wood heat.
