Holsters: Comparable to Crossbreed ST

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a new toy (G30) that I plan on to daily some, but mostly for stuffing under the seat of my car. I had a G30 a few years back with a Supertuck holster and loved it, comfortable, concealed well for it being such a fat gun. What are some other brands out there that are comparable to ST's  but a little more economical, conceal well, comfortable, and don't have to wait 6+ weeks to receive - yes I understand the quality, I have a few, but again, this will not be my absolute every single day carry.

Ozark holsters. Usually shipped in 2-3 days. About $50 shipped and lifetime warranty. I have one for every gun I own. Actually prefer them over Crossbreed.

I recently heard about aliengear, and by recently, I mean yesterday and havent looked in to them yet. I have also heard good things about Comptac. Just was looking in to others opinions.

I have ordered a couple Crossbreed ST's in the past year and both arrived in less than 2 weeks. Wait times are nowhere near what they were a couple years ago.

I have owned two holsters from Tommy Theis. Both were shipped out within a week of my order. Overall I was pleased and found them comparable to the CBST type of holster system.

This is what i carry my G30SF with. I highly recommend Tommy and his products.

I own two of the ailen gear holsters. One IWB and the ther OWB. Both are very comfortable. The shells are swappable, the price is good and quality thus far seems top notch.

Comp-Tac pretty much started the mass-produced hybrid holster business.  The MTAC is on a completely different plane of existence from the Alien Gear, Cross Breed, and other such pretenders to the throne.  The very FIRST guy (as far as I am aware) to marry Kydex and leather is Rob Tucker over at Tucker Gun Leather.  I may be imagining this but I want to say that he and the guys at Comp-Tac may have gotten together somewhat to result in the MTAC stuff.  Again, I may just be crossing some stories there but they're both based out of Texas so maybe it's not just the bourbon talking.

As for cheap holsters, I own two Alien Gear holsters after deciding to try them out this past Christmas.  Both are the Cloak 2.0 model and my wife uses one of them for her own IWB carry.  She likes hers just fine, I am not so impressed -- but it's ok for what it is.  Definitely not the same quality as a Comp-Tac.

If I was going to stuff a gun into the less than ideal environment of a car (temperature extremes, humidity extremes, neglected for long periods of time) I would probably go with either a solid Kydex holster like those made by Raven Concealment, or a full-on synthetic hybrid holster like the Alien Gear Cloak 2.0.  I would also use a safe of some sort rather than just toss it under the seat where anyone who gains access to my vehicle would have instant access to a firearm.

Alien Gear is pretty good, but I wouldn't describe them as great.  It's taken me a lot of tinkering with the accessories kit to get my IWB where I want it, and I'm still going through trial and error with the OWB.  Their timeline from order to delivery can vary, and 4 weeks isn't uncommon.
