Poll worker harassment

This story comes from my father back in Raleigh, NC, just so you know where this is happening. I was talking with him on the phone last night, and he told me of two of his friends who went to vote early, and were verbally harassed by poll workers when it came out that they had voted or were planning on voting for McCain.

Now, I don't know the letter of the law, but it sure seems to me that it ought not to be permitted for poll workers to be blatantly taking sides like that. I was surprised to learn that apparently neither of his friends made any kind of stink about it. I would have been inclined to find out who was in charge of that polling place and let them know exactly what happened.

I bet if they were to call the Supervisor of Elections in their county, that there would be a couple less poll workers! Not sure about N.C. but any mention of a particular candidate, amendment, etc, is absolutely forbidden.

Actually, I kinda think thats a federal rule, not state by state. Pretty sure they can't try to influence either side like that.

were these poll workers (employees or on payroll, or volunteer for the election committee) or poll watchers (paid by each party to be positioned in polling stations that are heavily weighted for the other party?

I was a poll watcher for the GOP in 2000 and had to sit in a polling location all day in the ghetto to make sure there was no voter fraud, harassment, or illegal help being given.

I got paid $100 which was great for a college student for sitting for a day, but the down side is that I didn't get to vote (hadn't voted early)

Yup got rules going all the way down as to how far campaign workers can come to voting stations. Should have gotten their names and reported them.
