A local gun shop owner called me and told me he had something he thought I might be interested in (same guy I got a Johnson Model 1941 from last year).  He had taken it in on trade.  Serial number puts it late in the first batch of Ithaca's produced in 1943.  Its an Ithaca (not Colt) frame, all the requisite proof marks except for the ordnance mark on the RS, HS barrel, good bore.  Correct grips.  Magazine is not correct.  Someone ground off the lanyard loop - WTH were ythey thinking.  Cleaned up nice (just some internal dust and junk).  Hasn't seen the range yet.  Just has a feel to it...

I believe it should be parkerized as well, but still an interesting piece of history. Congratulations.

The Johnson is definitely something you don't run across every day!

Not sure about the finish - the serial falls right into the transition period between DuraLite and park'd.  This one may have had some refinish work done, but I really didn't care - didn't buy it as a collectable, but just for the history.  And Ithaca has always held kind of a special place with me - the very first firearm I ever had for my own was an Ithaca Model 37 20ga.  Had many a great memory hunting with that one, and still take it out a few times a year...39 years later...

Oh, I didn't mean to insult. I'm jealous. I love pretty much anything Ithaca. Had I found it at a decent price, I'd have brought it home with me as well.

Now that you say that, it may well be an original Dulite finish. If so, man it's in primo shape! The stamping in the frame does look crisp.

Great find. It pays to have contacts in high places. lol

I even get Christmas cards from him - think he knows a pigeon when he sees one?

Well, I did buy the Johnson Model 1941 from him...and a few other things along the way.

According to info I just received, this was one of a thousand pistols sent to the Raritan Ordnance Depot on August 30, 1943.  Extrapolating from the contract info, the price came to $41.23 (pistol with two magazines).

I have it's twin! It's just like the one I carried in Vietnam in 1967.

Mine is a double stamp, M 1911A1 U.S.ARMY on slide and frame. 1943 also and it looks like we are close on Ser#.

I have all the papers from when it was retired from the Army.

Nice find!
