Starting tomatoes indoors

Recommended Posts

For those of you who start your tomatoes early when do start growing them? Going to try to start my own instead of buying this year.

I start 8 weeks before planting.  Planting is 1 week after the "last frost" date, though some years I've had to protect the plants after planting from a light frost.

I've got some cold hardy plants started now, and they'll be going out in about 2 weeks.  Just put the tomato and pepper seeds in the starting soil, I will  keep them inside for about 8 weeks which puts me right at last frost date +1 week.

good luck!

Yep, about 2 months before they can go outside.  Farmer's Almanac says last frost is April 6, so now is probably a good time.

After you plant them if you worry about frost I always put a 2 liter bottle over them for a week or to just to make sure a surprise frost doesn't get them.
