Anyone chasing small game?

Recommended Posts

Man, I don't like seeing activity drop on the forum. I participated in my first deer season and have really enjoyed everyone else's tales.

So who's been after the squirrels, rabbits and other critters? Or is everyone getting out the rods and reels or prepping for spring turkey? I'll be getting out at least one more time on this year's license.

Shot some ducks last weekend, that was the closer.... Now it's on to Coyote and I think I'll be doing turkey for the first time this year.

Fishin never stops... but it gets more comfortable here soon for sure... Time to knock the dust off the kayak.

I've been prepping for turkey season. Going to plant a few new fields this year. Just got a very gently used ranger boat before thanksgiving last year. So getting excited about that. My fishing buddy (dad) isn't able to cast just yet. He's recovering from pacer surgery. But, looks like the spring will be here before we know it.

I'm looking forward to turkey hunting this year. Last year I planted a buckwheat field, and the turkeys showed up and ate all the seeds before season opener :(

This year, maybe I should sow the same seed a little bit later ;)

I've had that happen before. I used wire mesh, like chicken wire and covered up my seed. My plots were small so i didn't need a lot. Kept it over the seed long enough to let the sprouts take root.

I walked the woods for a few hours. I saw a handful of squirrels but wasn't really shooting today ... just enjoying this spring tease! Didn't see any rabbit but was able to throw a few lures the fish didn't want. Great February Saturday!

I'm going to bow hunt squirrels before the season is over.
Lots of rabbits around but I don't see them in daylight and don't have a dog

I've had good luck in the past hunting areas where a field was cut but there were scattered clumps of trees and strips at the edges of the field that were not cut.  Works best to hunt with one or two others and take turns kicking through the brush while the other hunters stand ready to shoot anything that pops out.  Just make sure that you are hunting with people that you trust, some people get a little excited and fail to pay attention to what they are doing and where they are shooting when that rabbit makes a run for it.
