Have any of you cut your cable?

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about making some kind of change to our cable as well. It's just so stupid expensive! I have only one concern though, it would be hard for me to give up the few shows I do watch. Is there some kind of service out there where you can watch shows (mine fore example are TWD and Game of Thrones) the same day/time they premiere WITHOUT cable? If such a thing existed, I wouldnt hesitate to tell Comcast to go kick rocks. I dont know of anything though, and thats why I'm still being robbed every month with my cable bill. However, I could just call Comcast and tell them I want to turn of my service, that will probably net me an extra $30 a month for awhile.

You need to consider whether those two shows are really worth that much to you. When we cut ours, there were also only two shows that really were "must see"s and when we laid it on the line, it just wasn't worth it. It's not like you never get to see them either, you might just have to wait for a bit (or visit a friend).

Heck, there are already sports bars. Maybe they should branch out a little. Catch some GoT in an Irish pub or something.

If you get HBO GO (which they sell separately from cable now), Game of Thrones airs at the same time as regular HBO (at least it did last year).  On a couple of episodes, there must have been a huge online viewing audience, because I got server error messages until after the episode was over.

For Walking Dead, I have to watch the next day.  For the last 4 most recent episodes, I actually got up earlier and watched before going to work so I wouldn't be spoiled.  Definitely worth saving the $70 a month Charter used to cost me.

I just signed up for Sling tv; they announced just last week that they added AMC to their line up.  So now I will get to watch The Walking Dead at the same time as the rest of you, and my son will get to watch Cartoon Network.  I'm going to try it for awhile and see how I like it.  It also has TNT, so I can use it to watch Falling Skies when it comes on.  It sounds like they may be adding more channels in the future.

At $20/month, it is more than what I'm paying per episode for things that I buy, but far less than cable.  Frankly, I would almost pay the same as I would for cable as long as it wasn't Charter or Comcast.  I could have done a 7 day trial, but they had a prepay for three months and get a free Amazon Fire Stick, so I went for it.

Well, Sling was working at 8:45 pm, but it is not at 9 pm.  It appears they may may have underestimated their ability to deliver to the new subscribers like me who signed up mainly to watch The Walking Dead.  Between that and the games on ESPN, I bet their servers crashed from too many people.  Maybe I'll get to watch at 11 pm.
