That's not so easy with a DA revolver. Some folks need the extra strength from having the trigger in the joint.

 

Plus he may be practicing with his weak hand, I always shoot some with my left hand when I'm at the range but I still can't get the same grip and finger placement i have with my right hand.

Looks to me like he is playing the role of hostage taker in a simulation...using Barney as cover.  No point in putting the revolver to the hostage's head if no one cares about the hostage.
