An older piece of "medical" history I have

I was given this by an ex girlfriend about 6 years ago. It is a wooden tube about 1.5 inches wide and 5.5 inches tall. The labeling on the outside reads that the shipper was Amos R Flock in Jamestown, PA. It is from the Miles Medical Co. in Elkhart, IN. It is a free sample of medicine for something called "LaGrippe". I found it humorous that on the label it also says "To Postmaster: If unable to deliver to adress given hand to someone who has had or is having LaGrippe". I looked up the stamp to get an idea of how old this is. It is a Grant 5 cent stamp and it was available from 1898 to 1899. It just found this again and decided to post this here. Pretty interesting. 827578c79ab0f0f58388a7d87aebe790.jpg833ebc4aaf8fd1ac42e733f23709a639.jpg7f521cad4cc29258922c4de4779740f2.jpgf6035f7eb4021f65a0c137658d6186a0.jpgbc21cdec17a887bbe0c5a26f884a4cb6.jpg

That's pretty awesome. I've decided when I get around to doing my "man room" it will be in antique gun stuff and old medical stuff, since both me and the wife are medical

I wonder what the medicine was... probably just aspirin.

No telling, back then. Could have had opiate in it, even heroin.

Had to look that one up, so it was something for the flu?  I love old medical stuff, makes you wonder how stupid people  will think we were 100 years from now.

In Spanish speaking countries La Grippe(a) seems to be the medical term for everything from a cold to being pregnant.  We did hundreds of medical brigades (medical mission trips) in jungles, mountains and cities all over South America and invariably when you asked what was wrong it was the infamous la Grippe.  Treatment varied.

Yep.  Bayer sold and promoted heroin as cough medicine.  Heck, don't forget that the name of Coca-Cola tells us exactly what was originally in it.  Cocaine and cola (the fruit of the kola nut plant which contains caffeine.)  Talk about having a Coke and a smile!
