TGO YouTube Channel - What would you like to see?

Recommended Posts

One of the suggestions we received at a recent TGO Guns & Coffee Focus Group meeting with some of our Benefactor members was that they'd like to see us start doing some videos on YouTube.  Message received!

We've set up a YouTube channel for the TGO community and are starting to formulate some ideas for upcoming videos.  There's nothing there yet but you guys go ahead and add it to your favorites or something because we're going to start throwing things up there as soon as we can make them.  Which brings us to another question:

What kind of videos would you like to see?

Some things that seem obvious to us are...

  • Product reviews
  • Instructional / How-To videos
  • Interviews
  • Maybe some training videos
  • Coverage of shooting sports

These could all be a combination of TGO-produced and member submitted material.  Any other ideas?  Do any of those resonate with you?

I really like the idea of the How-To videos, especially something that could be stickied to the top of the different sections.  Like building an AR-15, cleaning it, reassembly, etc.  Maybe the same for the other various types like the AK, 1911, and other common rifles/handguns.  Even better would be to get input from the different vendors and smiths on here.

Could TGO find a niche?  What I mean, what would separate TGO from other like videos on Youtube?  Tennessee centric maybe?

I like the idea, but Youtube is flooded with gun reviews and whatnot related to the gun hobby.  Sure it will gain traction with some TGO'ers, or is that the targeted group?

I would love to see this happen. Maybe some members could appear in different videos. Each person on here has different skill and knowledge. It would be cool to see different members talk about certain things and see a face and hear a voice from the other members. Sounds like a great idea. I know the webs is flooded with gun reviews and so on but to watch one made by my "neighbor" would be pretty cool. Edited by glowdotGlock

It's a good idea but being tech ignorant I've always wondered what kind of equipment is needed for filming and how you get it on you tube. What can I say? I'm old and my VCR if I still had one would still be blinking cause I couldn't figure out how to reset it.

It's not hard. You can even make a good HD video with most phones now. And to upload it to youtube isn't much hassle. I've done it a few times.

Well in that case I suppose I could get my 11 year old grand daughter to teach me then. newlaugh.gif

David, I think you covered it all for the most part.

But to be more specific...

I'd like to see:

  • Local political and legal issues coverage pertaining to second amendment.
  • Interviews with politicians putting them on the spot so we can see where they stand on 2A rights.
  • Long range tactical shooting how-to's.
  • Building and modifying firearms (like AR's) for specific purposes (long range, CQB, AR pistols, NFA, etc.)
  • Filming of local shooting competitions, such as long range and 3 gun.
  • Interviews with local gun manufacturers and manufacturing facility tours showing the inside workings, etc.. Then get more in depth with each firearm they make.
  • Interviews with local gun celebrities such as Hickock45, etc...
  • Getting inside interviews, Q & A's with gun rights organizations such as GOA, NRA and the TFA. It would be nice to have a direct line to these orgs so we can actually communicate and get them working on some side issues while the major 2A rights battles have calmed down (NFA, etc.).
  • Reloading and bullet casting videos.
  • Reloading products reviews.

I too think this would be a great idea..and Thanks for considering it David.

Just an observation, and being a caster and handloader I know I'm biased...but I read a lot of posts where folks are asking great questions about getting started in such. We have some incredible subject matter experts (Dolomite / Gordon comes to mind)  and experienced members (Leroy perhaps?) that share invaluable information with the novitiates. So maybe a Handloading How-To series could be considered. Just a thought.

Someone mentioned the plethora of video content already out there for some of the subjects I mentioned.  While that is true, I believe there's a certain comfort level or "bona fides" that come along with material being presented by people you interact with on a regular basis.

I would also aim to keep the content realistic and practical, which means if we end up with training videos of some sort, the focus will be on informative and education content rather than the "edutainment" that I see in a lot of videos.  If you're entertained by it, that would be a happy by-product.  You won't find backflip, hatchet-throwing, Spetsnaz, black-ops type stuff.

I'd like to see highlighted benefactor members with special skill sets, maybe every so often? Grand Torino is the first one that comes to mind. Maybe do a video on his knife making process. If he's ok with that, of course.

Or Dolomite and one of the 10,000 ideas for cool stuff I see him post about.

Just a thought. We have some very talented folks that are a part of this site, it'd be cool to highlight that I think. Edited by KKing
