Well a pistol scope work, or do I really need an intermediate eye relief scope.
It's going on a Ruger scout.
Looking to stay south of $150.

I don’t have a Ruger scout, but it looks like you have two options. If you straddle the scope mount across the chamber you can use whatever rifle scope you want with normal eye relief.

Or if you want to keep the fixed sights you can mount an extended eye relief scope on the rail in a mount that allows the fixed sights to see through it.

Just depends on what you want to do with it.

I wanted a scope on my Garand and used a handgun scope. It’s a Simmons Prohunter 2-6X32 that you can pick up for $110-$140. It works great and has withstood being shot on a 30-06. However, any long eye relief scope is not going to give you fast target acquisition.

It's mostly going to be used within 300yds a a combination varmint/hunting/plinking rifle.
I doubt if it'll ever get shot beyond that so I was looking at minimum magnification scopes. It'd be nice to find something that went 1-5 or so.

I use a 2x Leupold on my Marlin.  It is a good scope.  You might be able to find a used one.
